RickQ and I are both in. We considered sharing a membership for about 5 seconds, but then realized that a) we would lose our post counts and b) $10 is a paltry sum for what we get here. We never considered not staying.
What a quandry- $5 doesn’t worry me unduly (someone said they spill more than that a month- I spill more than that a day!) but I hate paying for online things, given that a person pays to get online and be bombarded with stinking pop ups at every turn.
That being said, I have lurked for a long time before joining and will end up coughing up the five bucks.
I do find it a difficult situation for those of us overseas though- if you don’t wish to use a credit card, you end up paying something like $30 for a money order in US dollars.
Somewhere, I am sure an American owes me a favour worth five bucks.

Oh the many things that I have learned here the giggles I’ve gotten, couldn’t imagine leaving. Tis most definitely worth it. It gives me a glimpse, albeit a bit left of center, of what’s shaking back in the states. And EuroDopers…today it’s only 4.03 (can’t find Euro symbol on the keyboard), tis a deal!
Yeah, I’m staying. I was worried it was going to be expensive to subscribe, but I think I can manage less than 10 cents a week.

Sounds like you need either the Google toolbar to block those popups or you need to run Spybot and Ad-Aware to catch some adware on your computer.

I’m staying. The best things in life may not necessarily be free, but it’s good to know that at least one of them is only $4.95. 
$5 a year? I’m not exactly rich or anything, but that’s damn cheap entertainment, especially considering that I’ll actually have internet access soon and will be able to post the way I used to, way back in the day. Plus, I’ve got an impressively high post count for someone who no one knows unless they’ve been here over a year and a half or so.
So far, I think I’m staying. I’m going to wait around a while to see what I consider the 15-20 most interesting Dopers do, I’ve already got a positive read on about 5 of them and a negative on 2-3.
But I don’t think I’ll subscribe if I have to sign up for PayPal. Especially not after reading some of the comments here. What’s so wrong with it?

I second imthjckaz’s suggestion that there be an option to pay a set fee to become a permanent member. I would rather not have to worry about re-signing up every year, or of having whatever credit card I leave no longer be valid as the cards I use will shift from time to time. The extra expense up front might be worth no hassles in the future.
