What in the world was wrong with it?
Lately, I have been seeing more locks on this board than there are on all the chastity belts in the world!
I would imagine the problem is this clause from the user agreement. You can see a copy of it as a sticky thread in the ATMB section.
Basically your thread is talking about stealing copywrited material.
Locking the thread seemed kind of pointless. Doesn’t stop you from going ahead with your idea, it just prevents people from talking about it. So I guess we’ll all end up talking about it here instead.
Seems to me the mod could have just said “no, don’t do this” in the thread and left it open with the same results.
Okay, I can understand if the Reader doesn’t want me to give copies of the SDMB to other members.
Is there anything that says that I can’t download the SDMB archive for myself?
I take it this is some sort of trick question.
Also, does anyone at all still use chastity belts? I mean, if you see even one locked thread…

Cannot figure out why the thread was locked or who locked the thread, despite the fact that the person who locked the thread was clearly identified when he provided a reason in that very thread.
And some folks wonder why it is taking longer than we thought it would.
I should clarify that the moderator who locked my thread locked it first and then went back in and add that last message.
He posted this thread less than a minute after the thread was locked! I really am trying to be nice and not say - wait a minute, they never lock without a reason, but they lock first then explain, stop jumping the gun!
But I’ll just be quiet. Oops.
But of course. God knows what could have happened if that thread had stayed open for an extra two minutes!
My understanding is that your own posts are still yours to do with as you wish. Other posters’ posts are theirs and the Reader’s. So you could download all of your posts onto a DVD but nobody else’s. I think. IANAM etc.

The Reader’s “All Your Copyrights Are Belong To Us” clause wouldn’t prevent someone from getting permission to republish on behalf of the individual posters.
Incidentally, since the project is billed as archiving it could fall under a protected use of copyrighted material, regardless of the status of permissions obtained from rights holders.

Well, according to Wikipedia (search up Chasity belt; images may turn you on, more for adults and sexually mature children), chastity belts are still quite common in the BSDM arena.
I was thinking that there should be some fair use policy for the archive.
I’m surprised the OP even needed to ask why the thread was locked. I knew that thread was going to get locked just from reading its title. You posted on a message board that you wanted to copy copyrighted material from the message board and sell it. That’s like walking up to a Secret Service agent during a Presidential motorcade and asking him if he’d mind loaning you his gun so you could take a shot at the President.
You should read what I wrote more carefully. I never said that I was going to sell anything. I just wanted it so I could search faster.

I figured that out a few years back, after a thread on people’s initials.
I had realized that if I include my graduate degree, my initials are BDSM, and therefore anagram to SDMB. One of these, therefore, must be my destiny.
