Who's watching The Goldbergs?

I like that Dave Kim’s mom was always referred to as “Dave Kim’s mom” (including the credits) - and as usual, great real video segment.

Brian

I like that Beverley finally has met her match in Dave Kim’s Mom, also that Dave Kim has a thing for Erica.

Re the real video segment, the real girl best pal looked almost exactly like the actress who played her.

Best line: Who wouldn’t understand a lonely teenage boy in his room shaking his booty to George Michael- OK, I hear it now.

:smack: While watching I could have sworn that Faith was from the 90’s, but it turns out I was thinking of Freedom :smack:

not the one with Molly.

I’m reviving this thread because last night’s episode of The Goldbergs was an homage to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. I thought it was hilarious. It had a cameo by Charlie Sheen (whom you might remember met Ferris’s sister in the police station at the end of the movie).

I love The Goldbergs alot, but that was my least favorite episode because they hewed too closely to stuff from the movie (and I love the movie too). The episode just wasn’t enough Goldbergs for me.

Having grown up in exactly the time period when this show is based, and about 10 miles from where it’s based (even though it’s clearly filmed in CA), it constantly reduces me to hysterics. But last week, when Barry came driving over the hill in their “new” van, singing the A-Team theme song, I completely lost it.

Since it started airing I’d only caught parts of shows here and there but I always liked what I saw so I’m going to make an effort to watch it regularly. That being said, I didn’t love the latest episode but I’m not sorry I stopped what I was doing to watch it either. I can see that I’m going to get even *less *done on Wednesday nights now :).

By the way, if anyone else is a big fan of Wendi McLendon-Covey (the mother) I encourage you to watch “Do As I Say”. It’s a prank show along the lines of Candid Camera, but the twist (and the best part) is that WMC tells the prankster celebrity what to say and do via a hidden receiver. Even if you don’t like the hidden camera format you might want to give it a try if for no other reason than her mad improv skills.

BTW, that “Do As I Say” show is a total ripoff of Impractical Jokers, which is much, much funnier. Impractical Jokers is only on TruTV channel however, so it’s a bit hard to find.

I enjoy this show quite a bit!

I only regret it didn’t also include Ben Stein.

Nice nod to John Hughes.

And Sheen really made it!

I was hoping for Jeffrey “Rooney!” Jones.

Ben Stein was used in the commercials for the episode (saying “Goldberg, Goldberg” in the same tone in which he said “Bueller, Bueller” in the movie).

I just saw yesterday that Adam is commenting the show reviews at the AV Club, which is pretty cool. Many of his comments in here are about the process of making the show; interesting to see how the sausage is being made in this case.

I watched two episodes last night, this week’s and last week’s. Last week’s episode where Adam was trying to be class clown was so-so. But I really liked the Ferris Bueller episode, I laughed a lot during it.

Loved the part where Charlie Sheen said he felt like he had been sitting on that bench for 30 years.

Is he still allowed near teen boys?

Yes, when they attach themselves very specifically to a historic date or event, it throws me off when something else that happened 6 years later occurs 3 episodes down the road. And they have even skirted into the 90s a time or two, which is even more annoying.

But the cast is terrific and very funny.

It was pretty weird that they cut that (or didn’t use that) in the actual episode.

But I’m glad I didn’t see the commercial until after the episode, as it would have utterly ruined the shock when the actual Charlie Sheen showed up in the police station. That blew my mind.

Yeah, I don’t think he’s gotten much work since his child pornography conviction.
