Who's your favorite Muppet?

My parents were friends with Jim Henson in the late 60’s, and they would frequently stay at his house (“Like, wow man, can we crash at your pad?”). My mom tells me that he had puppets everywhere. He even had a funny little green amphibian-looking thing that used to hold open the kitchen door. They also were not the little innocent kid’s characters that they are today. Let’s just say that sex and drugs were very much a part of Mr. Henson’s lifestyle and that they rubbed off on his little creations.

The Swedish Chef and Dr. Teeth. No doubt about it.

Favorite Episodes?
I loved John Denver, and there was an episode with some chick singing send in the clowns that gave me nightmares. I hate hippies.

Herbert Birdsfoot.

Animal.

Beaker.

Swedish Chief.

What can I say? They’re all such masters of dialogue.

From Sesame Street: Cookie Monster, The Count, and Oscar the Grouch.

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

I always liked the obscure ones, like Herbert Birdsfoot, Harvey Kneeslapper, Guy Smiley, and Little Bird. Of the mainstream ones, Kermit, The Swedish Chef, Gonzo, Animal, and pretty much the whole gang are favorites. Rowlf has really grown on me as I grew older.

On Fraggle Rock, Cantus (sp?) from Fraggle Rock was sooooo great. Just about everything in The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth was superb. And The Storyteller…I like his non-kiddie stuff best.

Anyway. I can’t express how I envy those of you who got to meet Jim Henson. Wish I could thank him for helping me grow up right.

Once again, I have to put my weirdness on display.

I find Bunsen Honeydew absolutely hilarious to look at. His head is almost perfectly round, and the fact that he has no discernible eyes yet wears eyeglasses gets me rolling every time.

As far as the favorite show, the funniest thing I’ve ever seen on there is the baby skit, where they, if I remember correctly, beat the Pampers off each other while singing some song.

And the problem with small furry animals
in corners is that, just occasionally,
one of them’s a mongoose.
Terry Pratchett, Witches Abroad

Animal. He rocks.

Kermit. He’s hip.

Elmo. He’s terminally cute.

Everything from *The Dark Crystal.*Especially the Gelflings. Sometimes it’s hard to believe they’re Muppets.

I’d be hard pressed to say who was my favorite muppet, although I will say this – Miss Piggy is my least favorite. I found her most grating.

In other news, I heard a rumor that Rowlf the Dog was a send up of Tom Waits ala Nighthawks at the Diner. Does anyone have any information on this.

Ernie and Bert are too cool. They’re the Odd Couple of Sesame Street. Definitely my favourites.

I do like Oscar’s ad-libs though. And Grover is cute, too.

Rowlf was the most adult of them all - his humour was really cutting edge, and usually over the heads of the average kid.

I do like Kermit, though…

Oh heck, I like 'em all!

Statler and Waldorf! That’s them. Those would be great names for dogs or cats, wouldn’t they?

As for Sesame Street, I love Grover and that poor slob that can never get waited on by him .
And Baby Bear.

And my question du jour: How in the hell does whomever is in the Big Bird costume see? I don’t see any eyeholes or spaces in the feathers where a human head would be. this had driven me nuts since I don’t know how long.

Animal specifically, Dr. Teeth and the rest of the band as a whole.

Favorite bit would have to be Beeker getting abused scientifically by Dr. Bunson Honeydew!

Yer pal,
Satan

The Phantom of the Muppet Theater was by FAR the coolest.

Is an appreciation of beauty a function of the human soul?

My, how… unnecessary.

C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me. . . C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me. . . C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me, oh, cookie cookie cookie starts with C. . .

Statler and Waldorf have to be my favorites, though.

Statler: “Well, the chef’s done it again!”
Waldorf: “Done what?”
Statler: “Nothing.”

And now, for my next trick, I will talk in spooky half-references.

Scred? Obscure?

No more obscure than King Ploobis and The Mighty Favog.
