For me, Derek Trucks (of course) and, as of this week, Andrew Bird. I see no reason to change my policy for either artist.
Anything by Rush. Cowboy Mouth.
Kate Bush.
The transition to downloads sucks. When Aerial was released, we waited in line at Tower Records to buy a copy at 12:01 AM. By the time Director’s Cut came out, Tower Records was a distant memory.
Springsteen. Everything else gets a wait.
Trivium. All Shall Perish. Lamb of God. Ray Lamontange
Way too many bands/artists to list.
For me at present: The Black Keys. Drive-by Truckers.
And while I can still edit: Upcoming Album Releases - Metacritic <— this is a good link for quickly skimming to see if there are any good albums upcoming.
The Shins. I was bursting with anticipation for the new album which I downloaded as soon as I woke up on Friday. And I was not disappointed, it is a thing of beauty and joy.
And his new album is fantastic too.
Other acts whose albums I will always get as soon as I’m humanly able with the full knowledge I am unlikely to be disappointed: The National, Neko Case, Death Cab For Cutie, PJ Harvey, Sarah Blasko, Clare Bowditch, Paul Kelly, TV On The Radio, Radiohead, Wilco, The Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, anything by Johnette Napolitano and - don’t judge me! - Alanis Morissette.
The Dead Milkmen. Maybe also Cake.
Tons of other artists have let me down with their latest albums, so I give a few listens on Spotify before I buy.
