Why a new incredible hulk?

Because the Ang Lee Hulk movie was an awful thing - departed from YEARS of Hulk history, and was a whiny emo-fest.

This Hulk movie will follow along with the plotline familiar to decades of readers.

Marvel is finally keeping with the storylines that people have loved for decades, and not trying to remake the Hulk to be something he wasn’t intended to be.

Well, those are DC characters, not Marvel, but I see your point. I’d rather see Dr. Strange or Captain America (which I think are both in the works).

That would be five, four and one. There’ve been two decent movies, two really crappy movies, an eight-year pause, then a good movie and what looks to be another good movie. We’ll see if it still works.

I was exaggerrating for comic effect, but it’s 5, 4 and 2.

Marvel are now producing their own movies, rather than selling the rights to the characters piecemeal to other production companies. This gives them the opportunity to do what a lot of comic fans have wanted for some time: create a consistent fictional world in which their characters all live, and in which they can interact – just like they do in the comics.

We have Iron Man and The Hulk, and they’re planning Thor and Captain America for 2010, with Ant-Man in development – that’s the starting line-up for The Avengers super-team.

Why specifically the Hulk, now? I assume it’s because – thanks to the TV series and the Ang Lee film – he’s the one with the highest recognition factor among the general, non-comic-buying public, making it easier to drum up investment in the project. Plus, this gives them the opportunity to tweak the background of his world, and tie the actors into contracts, so he can interact with their other characters in future films.

Although I know the Avenger Initiative’s already been mentioned on film I’m seriously hoping their casting choices are leading to an Ultimates team-up rather than old Avengers. In which case we’ll get to see Hulk eat people and hopefully they’ll include Wasp as well.

Care to expand on that? I’ve had the basic idea of the Ultimate Universe explained to me, but I’m not familiar with any of the details.

The Ultimates Universe is where everyone is an anti-hero or quasi-fascist. That’s about it.

And no, there’s not a snowball’s chance in Hell of seeing that reach the big screen with the word “Marvel” attached.

The people promoting the movie are saying it’s not a sequel and has nothing to do with the 2003 movie. It’s a complete story reboot.

That’s not what they were saying a few months ago. Then it was considered a “reimagining”/sequel.

To be perfectly honest, if I were Bruce Banner what would make me most angry would be someone coming along and changing my girlfriend from Jennifer Connelly into Liv bleeding Tyler. I’d be green and smashy for months, I tells yer.

It’s enough to make you take up supervillainy, it really is…

YOGURT: Perhaps we will meet again in Spaceballs II: The Search for More Money.

Right, because most movies these days are made out of a desire for unblemished artistic expression without thought or desire for profit. Come on, people! Of COURSE they want to make more money!

Count me as someone else who liked the Ang Lee film. I also liked that it wasn’t Hulk Smash from first frame to last. It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty good, IMO.

I might go see the new one, if only because i’ll see almost anything with Ed Norton in it, but it doesn’t look especially inspiring.

They’ve called it a reimagining from day 1 of the promotion. As far as I know, they never said or implied it was a sequel, and have done their best to put as much distance between this film and the 2003 one as possible.

I guess I’d be upset, too, losing out on Jennifer Connelly, but compared to my current situation, I’d be pleased as punch for a date or two with Liv Tyler.

I have to go back and check b/c of my faulty memory, but I think Hulk ate:

the Skrull leader at the end of the first run of The Ultimates. Great book, btw, definitely a must-read. Oh yeah, count me as another who like Ang Lee’s Hulk. Also, count me as another sad fool who will watch this movie.

“You’re making me pleased as punch. You wouldn’t like me when I’m pleased as punch.”

Nope, not working for me. Guess that’s why we’re not action heroes; our standards are too low.

I thought the 2003 Hulk was pretty decent, but I saw it because I like Ang Lee, not because I’m into the Hulk.

Better known as the “Gulf War II” approach to film production.

To sell more toys/happymeals/crap. Its not a movie. Its a commercial.
