Why am I getting robocalls in Spanish on my cell phone?

For the past few days I’ve been getting automatic calls in Spanish. I don’t speak it and hang right up, so I don’t know what they are about. I’ve never gotten any previous telemarketer or political calls on this phone. What’s up? Should I be concerned? I do live in an area with a high concentration of Spanish speakers. (Just to note, it was the same voice in the recording both times.)

Some of them are phishing and other scam sorts of calls. They intentionally prey on the undocumented, who are less likely to involve the authorities when they get scammed.

If it is this number, they are running a scam aimed at Latino residents:

I would imagine there are other numbers and calling operations that are targeting Latinos.

That’s what it is, apparently. Someone on a site I googled said that the call instructs you that you’ve won a prize, but if they took the call and spoke English, the caller hung up on them.

The number is 859-212-1501.

I’ve been getting Spanish calls too on both my cell and home number. Plugging that 952 extension into Fear Itself’s link says “spammer” as well. Looks like a pretty widespread op.

Just to add that Ive gotten them as well.

I never thought telemarketers could get any more annoying…

and then I got the spanish calls.

Just wait until you have to go to a Do Not Call site written in Spanish to get rid of 'em.

I get them too, and have had them every so often for months.

Now the question is, who owns the number. (I need to write down the one who calls me.

Does anyone know of a site which give the company who owns a number? Oh for the days of the Bell System - no problem finding out then.
