Why are Greens trying so hard to re-elect Trump?

I can understand their getting on the ballot in California or Utah, but going to court to get on the ballot in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin? Are they mad or just deluded? Do they secretly love fossil fuels after all? I just cannot figure it. They should be putting all their efforts into getting Biden elected and convincing him and the rest of the people that climate change is real and very very serious.

True Believers don’t care about reality.

Howie Hawkins is no Ralph Nader. The fight to get him on ballots is being done by Republicans. I’m not saying Hawkins is a Republican stooge, but the Republicans are eager to get him on ballots in close states to hopefully draw away some voters from Bidens.

Getting Republicans Elected Every November.

Then how do you explain Clinton and Obama getting elected? The Green Party had candidates running those years.

Here in Syracuse, there is pretty much a collective groan every time Howie runs for office. He’s run for practically every position there is (mayor, county legislator, congress, senate, governor, etc.).

But I have to admit–the guy never gives up and even though he knows he has no change of being elected to office, he still does it.

They like punishing Democrats for not being pure enough. Both Nader and Stein knew exactly what they were doing.

I think Nader and Stein were motivated partly by purity and partly because of their ego and narcissism. Stein met with Putin, probably knowing full well the assault that he was waging on the country’s electoral system. Didn’t matter to her.

This is not at all a joke, but an exact summary of the strategy.

Useless idiots.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Nader got Bush Jr. elected in 2000. Had he not been on the ballot in Florida, Gore would have had enough votes that the infamous Butterfuckup Ballot would not have mattered.

Being held hostage by two shitty parties isn’t exactly the hallmark of a free and fair election.

Every time it ping-pongs, it just gets worse. The Democrats aren’t just impure but indifferent. And weak-willed and lack any sort of long term vision. The GOP does whatever it takes to get their agenda pushed through. The Democrats just weep and cry foul and keep losing. :man_shrugging: A wasted vote either way…

What a bold statement!!! Let’s take to the streets with the torches and pitchforks, down with the two party corporate duopoly. There is no greater high than the self righteous smugness that comes with ‘sending an message’ by voting 3rd party.

Or if more Nader voters voted for Bush he would have had a bigger victory. And if more Democrats had turned out and voted for Gore, maybe that mess wouldn’t have happened, either.

Third party candidates can hurt either candidate.

If there was no Green candidate, Green voters would vote for Democrats. Therefore Green candidates can only siphon votes away from Democrats. I think you know this and are being disingenuous.

Nope. So be careful making such claims about me:

So now who’s being disingenuous???

And Howie Hawkins claims that the Democratic Party is guilty of voter suppression because they routinely try to stop Green candidates from running:

Wah Wah Wah I hate pizza and love hamburgers but we always have pizza. Wah Wah Wah I hate pizza.
Well, I’m sorry not enough people wanted hamburgers but this pizza is at least somewhat edible. The only other choice is a shit and vomit casserole topped with broken glass.
Wah Wah I hate pizza. I hate it so much it tastes like shit and broken glass to me. It’s doesn’t matter! I didn’t get my hamburgers so screw you, we’ll all eat shit, including me. That’ll show you,

It’s what my mom called cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I’ve been voting for 45 years. I don’t think the candidate I favored in the primary ever made it to the general, but I learned a long time ago that this isn’t the kind of fight you win, it’s the kind of fight you fight. Sometimes it seems like the hard left progressives think that if they once they get their candidate in office the fight will be over. Sometimes, in battle, if you make a hard charge after hard charge against a formidable enemy, you might gain a little ground for a few minutes, but then you get your ass kicked back to the Stone Age of your movement. Sometimes if you move slowly and carefully forward you might feel like you aren’t getting anywhere, but then when you look behind you realize that you’ve gained a lot of ground.

If not enough of your friends and neighbors prefer burger to pizza, I suggest joining them for their pizza parties and work on selling them on ordering burgers next time.
I do not suggest shoving shit and ground glass down their throats while screaming - “this is what you get for not liking burgers. Vote for burgers next time if you don’t want to eat shit!”

People aren’t going to join forces with you if they don’t like you.

I saw something in another thread that struck me as slightly amusing. IIRC, it was a progressive insight that said, paraphrased “We are tired of trying to appeal to moderates, we need to appeal directly to voters”. I wondered who and where they think these voters are.

I think the Greens have every right to get on the ballot, and it’s definitely true that the Dems have used dirty tricks in the past to make things unfair to the Greens or to apply what amounts to a double standard in practice. The Democrats and Republicans have been working together on things like the debates to prevent 3rd party candidates from using them to get exposure as well.

I really don’t think that’s what’s happening this year. The Greens seemed to have made ridiculously obvious mistakes with their filing in some key swing states, and it just so happened that the timing worked out where the ensuing lawsuit delayed the mailing out of ballots. Oh and they used conservative-aligned lawyers.

We don’t need to hear Jack Fucking Shit from the third parties unless they show that they can poll at 15% or higher like Perot did. ‘But they have something to add…’ Yeah, so does the drunk at the bar after 6 double Jack Daniels.
