I have to agree here. FedEx support for the people is horrible- they just dont give a fuck.
Okay, let us hope they get the rest of the way, and arent misdelivered to someone else,
Musta caught a tailwind, ‘cause delivery is anticipated today. (I’m sure you all are as excited as I! ;))
Still wondering - anyone got any idea/guess how FedEx logistics works, such that for the 1750 miles between Phoenix and St Louis, the only scans occurred in Mosquero NM and Strafford MO?
Maybe the truck driver had a tip for a good place to get lunch.
Just because I’m sure you are all dying to know - they came on Wed - a day later than predicted.
Tuesday was somewhat frustrating - got home from work and eagerly awaited their delivery - predicted by 350pm IIRC. And waited. Then they changed it to “by end of day.” So I wondered if that meant 7-8pm or midnight. Kept the light on and kept checking the door and computer. Around 8pm they changed it to the following day. They came within that window.
Just mildly irritating, as it changed my eager anticipation into a sorta prolonged increasing irritation/frustration. So now I’ve got the clubs - just in time for a winter storm w/ 4-6” predicted tomorrow! ![]()
I don’t.
Worldwide, FedEx employs over a half-million people. This one … was an asshole.
I don’t see the upside in painting the other half-million, and the corporation writ large, with the same broad brush.
This one … was an asshole.
The driver also lied about coming back to our house using GPS to ensure he delivered to the right house. He never did. And that’s just one story. Based on my sampling, FedEx is over 50% assholes.

Kinda reflects my impression of so many “reviews” one encounters on-line.
I remember when we were shopping for windows. Pick any top brand - Pella/Marvin/Anderson… - and you’ll find folk saying they are the best windows imaginable, and others vehemently claiming them to be crap. I sometimes wonder about folk who are so impressed - positively or negatively - by a transaction/experience that they are moved to post a review on-line. I suspect that some percentage of the negative folk may either be unreasonable cranks, or reflect a minority of folk who suffered rather infrequent and unrepresentative experiences.
I often think of my job. Folk are pissed - and rightfully so - when my employer fucks up. However, when I reflect that we serve some 70 million folk per month, there are going to be a non-zero number of fuck-ups on our part. Which IMO we do a decent job of correcting. Still sucks if you are the person whose claim gets fucked up. How many packages does FedEx deliver per day?
I wasn’t THRILLED by how this delievery was handled. But it wasn’t like I was awaiting a new kidney. And now that I have the clubs, the mild discomfort WRT delivery will quickly fade. If I were shipping something in the future, this experience alone would not cause me to select a shipper other than FedEx.

Here. This …
This free sample size calculator determines the sample size required to meet a given set of constraints. Also, learn more about population standard deviation.
Can help you avoid this …
Insensitivity to sample size is a cognitive bias where people estimate the probability of obtaining a sample statistic without considering the sample size. For example, in one study, subjects assigned the same probability to the likelihood of obtaining a mean height of above six feet [183 cm] in samples of 10, 100, and 1,000 men. In fact, variability is more likely in smaller samples, the law of small numbers, but people generally do not understand this. In another example, Amos Tversky and Dani...
In the future.
I have taken three classes in Statistics for my degrees plus two classes in research methodology in mathematics so I don’t need to to talk to me like a child about sample size.
I am responding solely to what you wrote, and not to who you are, your education, or your background.
I’m glad, for example, that non-Dopers don’t judge the entire SDMB by the logical fallacies to which you committed upthread.
It’s a frank logical fallacy, curriculum vitae notwithstanding.
I am responding solely to what you wrote,
How do you know that I have not dealt with more than 20 people at FexEx over my lifetime? Oh that’s right! Since I told a story of one time I dealt with FedEx that I must have only dealt with them once.
In my last job, I managed the relationship with FedEx, internationally, and across millions of packages shipped each year, for years.
Meaning: I have much more, and much broader, data than you do.
And my conclusions are dramatically at variance with yours.
It’s assholes all the way down.
If you’re implying that lots of turtles are assholes, well … you’ll get no argument from me ![]()
They also tend to make FedEx and UPS look fast by comparison!
I haven’t read the whole thread, so sorry if this was mentioned. Sometimes the location is the name of the street the warehouse is located on, not a town. I can’t recall the name but a UPS warehouse in Los Angeles was located on a street that shared the name of a remote town near Fresno. That caused no end of confusion for those who didn’t actually work for UPS.
Which FedEx service was selected to effect this shipment?
What was the service commitment (would be delivered within X days)?
Do you have, and can/will you share the full tracking data (without giving away anything personal or sensitive)?
My guess? It was shipped by ground, not air, and Mosquero was the town that pinged the GPS of a truck as it moved across the country:

ETA2: I didn’t read every response. Looks like some of this was covered upthread. Still … maybe good info for the knowledge base.

Please look at your recent post in ATMB, in which you parse tense in one sentence to IMO justify the misreading of an OP.
“are” is present tense and would invite the views of enipla and all other modern frontierpersons. If you only wanted the hypothetical of “imagine you are that person on the frontier in olden times” then you need to use the conditional form.
Not intended as an attack on you, Saint_Cad. But a current example of what I perceive as inconsistency - which is quite common IMO.
What was weird is that when I bought them in the store, they never asked me how I wanted it shipped. They merely asked where I wanted them shipped to. I asked if I would save shipping if they shipped them to the store, and they said, no, I had to pay shipping no matter where to. Pretty sure the receipt did not specify manner of shipping - but I didn’t look closely. All I focussed on was the total $ amount - which was within/under my anticipated budget.
I MAY have commented on the obvious - that there was no real rush. But I do not believe overnight or 2-day was even mentioned. The amount I paid for shipping was the ground rate in your link. I thought I recalled the website saying something like 10-14 days. When I asked in the store how long it would be, I THINK they said around 7-10 days. Which was fine with me. So I didn’t look into it any more closely.
I ordered them on a Friday. IIRC, they were completed and ready for shipping the following Tuesday. I THINK Fed Ex picked them up the following day, and said delivery on Sunday. That - and my proximity to OHare - made me think they would come via air. I thought they might come early - on Sat, such that I could use them on Sun. Then within a day or so they changed it to Tuesday. I got them on Wednesday. So that was around 11 days.
It’s possible they actually lose money on shipping, and that they lose even more money on the faster shipping. That would be a disincentive for them to nudge you toward shipment by air.
I think the funniest part of the whole thing is that one of our resident – if retired – airline pilots figured out your clubs were moving by truck
I didn’t even know those guys could see down while flying ![]()
I hope you don’t face what I once did: I bought a beautiful, high-end titanium road bicycle and was still awfully slow. It started to look like the problem … may have been me ![]()
