I had seen my share of anime when I was in college. And like others familiar with the genre, there is nudity here and there (boobs, anyway). Aside from the stylized, Barbie-doll like proportions most of the female characters have, one thing I also happened to notice after a while is their areolas. They are tiny. Its like the barest speck of pigmented skin.
Is this a holdover of some sort of physical ‘ideal’ in Eastern Asian culture? Just for once, I think it would be funny if there was some anime where one of the female characters had big ole burnt pancake nipples that I occasionally see women have in the locker room in the gym. I wonder how anime fans would react to this- curiosity or disgust?
I’ve seen almost no anime porn, despite having seen thousands of hours of anime, so I don’t know how “tiny” is “tiny” in this context. But I can say that Japanese women don’t have big ol’ pancake nipples, so it’s probably not something that many of the artists are aware is a thing.
If you want evidence, just go to google.co.jp and do an image search for “乳首”.
I know what the OP is talking about. I’m not sure what’s going on there, though it may be a stylization reflecting low-pigmentation nipples and a lack of differentiation of the outer borders of the areolas.
Obviously (or not) real-life Japanese women have nipples ranging from very pale to moderately dark. But art stylization is a funny thing.

Second of all, the results I got don’t really support your claim. The pics that came up for me showed considerable variation in size and pigment.
I said nothing about pigment. Nor did I say that there was no variety of size, just that there’s no “pancake” nipples, which I presume (from the name) to mean something along the order of:

Isn’t it because the Japanese are disturbingly obsessed with **very **young girls (in anime and everything else) and large nipples are not associated with them?
Frankly, what I see most often in anime is that the characters aren’t just shaped like a Barbie, they look the same as a naked Barbie, too - mounds in all the right places, but with no detail at all.
I have seem some anime draw the breast like you describe, with basically nothing but a dot. I think that’s a nod toward real anatomy, while still fundamentally relying on Barbie-doll-nudity.
The only time I’ve ever seen any more detail than that was when my college roommate started to show me his collection of anime demon-tentacle porn. In that, at least, the aureola seemed surprisingly correct, anatomically speaking, and fit essentially the range of sizes and colors that you’d see in real life. (I say surprisingly correct because, honestly, nothing else was.)
I think the fill in the blank words are depict women.
I think that ties in with the somewhat off-beat Futanari genre of porn, which the Wiki article describes a bit
