Why are the boys back in town, and where did they go in the first place?

Friend of mine in the 1980s thought I was talking about a song called Paradise by a group called “The Dashboard Lights” which is a totally different head-space (totally).

when we were young, we bragged of things we’d never done,
we were dreamers

And those seasons in the sun

“We Are the Music Makers… And We Are the Dreamers of Dreams.”

“Summer breeze, makes me feel fine…”

“I’m so glad, that she’s my little girl,
She’s so glad, she’s telling all the world”

Yeah, but do you hear the secrets that she keeps when she talkin’ in her sleep?

Sleepwalk,

Since my baby went away…

I always thought of it as a group of former friends. Probably someone’s frat brothers.

They’re back in town and for one night you’re back to college. Hitting the bars and getting wild.

Old friends from high school seem too young for the song.

This made me laugh so hard!

If the nights are getting longer, how come it won’t be long til summer comes? Makes no sense.

Yep-
The drink will flow and blood will spill
And if the boys want to fight, you better let 'em

I am starting to hate summer.

But I like that song.

Well, it’s a cruel summer.

Obviously, on a hot summer night, somebody offered their throat to the wolf with the red roses.

Summer in the city, back a my neck getting dirty and gritty.

(I hear a jackhammer)

Somebody get me a cheeseburger!

I’ve always thought this as well. Good Ear on Ya!

If that Chick don’t wanna know, Forget Her!

I assumed the Boys were just cowboys, lonesome on the trail.

On the steel horses they ride.

I believe the line is:

The nights are gettin’ warmer, it won’t be long
Won’t be long 'til summer comes

I wonder about these boys too. Might they have been happy, as the one The Beat Farmers sung about? Or were they just out for trouble, like the guys who tried to steal Dave Edmunds’ girlfriend?
