This has nothing to do with what I’ve said. I have no issue with universal coverage. Insurance companies and/or public coverage should have to take people who pay nothing in regardless of their state of health.
But that’s irrelevant to the finances of it all. On average, for the entire population of the poor, there is about $150 per month that can be spent on health care (or about $1800 per year.) This is perfectly sufficient to pay for average, low quality, health care. I’d rather see that money taken for that purpose than go to liquor and gambling and plasma TVs.
In reality, though, there’s no way that’s going to happen. Poor people are going to continue to spend like they did before, meaning that either I will be taxed more to pay for them to gamble and drink, or their taxes will increase and the minimum wage will have to be raised everywhere so they can still afford all their luxuries, meaning that more Mexicans come in living 5 to a room and working for half of minimum wage with no health care. And through all of this, health spending won’t have decreased.
So like I said, the reason why no one wants to pass this bill is because it won’t change health spending. That’s my sole point in this thread, and I have zero reason to think otherwise.
