Why Brooke Shields, that was spoken like a first class smartass!

I, for one, welcome our new ‘force me to breed with Katie Holmes’ overlords.

It was never more than hearsay, at any rate. Contra Costa Times article (please note: it’s in the gossip section {damn, I’ve never been so precise in CS before}) from a couple weeks ago credits Mimi with telling Playboy Magazine:

I have no idea if it’s true or not, but she did say it.

Do’h! Yup, of course it Lisa Marie, thanks for the correction.

I don’t care about Brooke or Tom or Katie or Scientology, but this comment made me loller.

Someone should use it as a sig line.

Tuckerfan, just for the record, it never crossed my mind that you were lying about seeing something about Cruise and domestic violence on the TV. I was hoping someone would have a cite so I could make my own evaluation of how credible the accusation was. (And yes, I did look on my own. I didn’t find anything, either.) Why do I care? Because the more high-profile Scientologists who can be credibly linked to immoral or evil behavior, the worse Scientology looks as a whole.

Although Tom seems to be doing a bang-up job of making Scientology look bad all by his lonesome, these days.

That’s what Michael said.

She’s hardly the household name she seems to want to be. As for her repertoire in the recent past, let’s see: Abandon, The Singing Detective, Pieces of April, and First Daughter. Dreck, mostly, and I’m beginning to understand why she wants some of that Tommy Cruise charm to rub off on her.
Get thee to a magazine rack. Now. Count the number of magazines she is on, with or without Tom. Up until now her impish grin would pop up occasionally during a slow month, but this is ridiculous. It really worked. Even backwoods housewives watching Touched by an Angel don’t buy into the Cruise-Holmes romance, but there you go.

(and though I’m not a stickler for cites, I think it’s completely reasonable to ask for one in this case. I’m pretty steeped in pop culture and I’d never heard the wifebeating rumour before)

I’ll agree that Abandon was nearly unrelieved dreck. I haven’t seen The Singing Detective or First Daughter, but from reviews/trailers I would expect them to be dreck as well. But Pieces of April was a wonderful little indie film, an opinion shared by the critics summarized at Rotten Tomatoes (86% pick, 83% overall). I also think she acquited herself quite well in The Ice Storm, Go, Wonder Boys, and The Gift. If there is career desperation here, I think it may be from the other side.

I heard Madonna used to smear her body with chopped liver, and make whoopee with several Lubavitcher rabbis at a time while reciting from Kabbalah readings.

It was in a back issue of People. Or was it the Forward? Or maybe it was on Motor Week.

Doesn’t matter, she’s a celebrity, and she won’t be around forever. :dubious:

Everyone’s saying that Katie and Tom totally stole the spotlight from Christian Bale at the Batman Begins premiere.

BTW, anyone have a link where I can see a clip of Tom on Oprah?

All these movies were an age and a half ago in starlet terms. And I don’t think that quality indie performances count for “career” evaluations in Hollywood terms. (Take a look to see whether Fametracker, http://www.fametracker.com, has anything to say about it.)

So far as the general public was concerned, Holmes had become a non-entity before the Tom Cruise thing popped up.

I’ve only seen her in Pieces of April, The Ice Storm (one of my favorite films, incidentally), and Wonder Boys, but she was excellent in all three of them. That might not mean huge paychecks and the best parties, but from what I’ve seen she’s a considerably better actor than Tom Cruise.
