Why Can't I Find Non-Chewy Sour Candy Anymore?

I love sour candy, at least I used to. I used to eat Sweetarts, when they dissolved into powder in my mouth, and it was heaven.

But now, it seems all sour candy has been converted into those gooey gummy things that I have to spend hours digging out of my molars. It’s a pain in the ass, (so to speak). I hate friggin’ gummy crap.

Today, I saw a bag of Spree candies at the store, and I was about to grab it, when I noticed that they were now gummy Spree candies! Blearrgh!

Okay, so now when I want sour candies that turn into powder, I have to settle for Willie Wonka Nerds, which are tiny little crumbs that come spilling out of a bigass box which is freaking annoying on its own. But it’s either that, or pour Crystal Lite Lemonade packets on my tongue, which I sometimes do when I’m desparate.

Who the hell decided all sour candy should be gummy crap?

Lemonheads.

Well, I can’t think of any that dissolve into powder unless there are sour flavor pixie sticks around, but Zotz used to be kind of sour, and lemon drops are certainly still around; they just don’t dissolve into fizz, though the zotz kinda do.

Love 'em, but not powder candy.

You may have some luck finding something from an online candy source.

SweeTarts are still available. These are the small ones in a roll. I think the Dollar stores carry them but haven’t really looked in several years.

I haven’t seen the bigger heart shaped ones in years. They were about 1 1/2 inches thick and maybe 2 1/2 inches across. I used to break them into pieces with a rock or brick to eat.

Not as sour as Sweetarts, but somewhat on the tart side are Smarties.

Zotz fizz so should be an acceptable substitute.

you’re welcome.

Thanks everyone. I just wish my store had a better selection of candy. I really don’t like ordering anything online. I don’t want to touch my credit cards.

This! Yummy.

Go to any big chain store–I know Wal-Mart carries them, the big box of Sweetarts like you get in a movie theater. My daughter gets them for me all the time from there. She also got me a box of hard Spree from Target. She also got me the chewy Spree too which I also like.

I know the dissolving thing you are talking about! It doesn’t happen with each Sweetart–but it does with the orange ones and occasionally some of the others. Awesome! Good luck!

atomic warheads are hard candies that are really sour.

If they are available in your area, you might consider checking out Hershey’s “Fruit N’ Sour” Jolly Ranchers (hard candies).

They’re still around - got a box just last week. Menard’s sells them. For a dollar. So does the dollar store.

I like Icebreaker Sours, but only the watermelon-green apple-tangerine mix, not the wild berry mix. The berry flavors are unpleasant.
