Why can't I just be a slacker?

I am a Theatrical Production Electrician. Basically, I do the technical work on building lighting rigs for conventions and trade shows. I also have experience with (touring) rock and roll, theatre, television and film lighting. Onsite I supervise the crew during the installation, show and tear down. Occassionally I work as a lighting console programmer as well.

In all, I’ve got over 31 years experience in stagecraft, including rigging, carpentry and audio work. My area of expertise (lighting) is a niche, to be sure, but one that I enjoy and am comfortable in.

You know, they made a movie about this. Something about a stapler…?

Yeah…I’m gonna need you to go ahead and come in on Saturday, mmkay?

Trust me you are not alone. Work sucks, responsibilities suck. Having kids guarantees you will be forced into both.
