Why can't Mark use the word unsubscribe?

In Mark Minasi’s latest newsletter he writes:

BTW, to not get these messages – I can’t use the “uns-”
word because, well, you know why – then visit www.minasi.com/unsubs.asp.

But I don’t know. Could you tell me?

Thanks.

Presumably because some automated system looks for that word, and unsubscribes the person who used it from the list. Or at least, so he believes. I would imagine most email systems only do this when the message is just that word and nothing else. Or at the very least, there would be some sort of confirmation process.

There may be some spam filters that use the word “unsubscribe” in the body of the text as a spam marker.

That’s the likely answer. A lot of spam e-mails have the line “Please email xxxx@xxx.com to unsubscribe”, but mailing that address doesn’t unsubscribe you from anything but instead confirms that yours is an active email address.

'cause ‘unsub’ might make the Feebs suspicious?

My thought exactly.
