Why can't we have nap accomodations at work?

Some days I just need a mid-day nap. Sometimes when I’m this sleepy, I fantasize curling up under my desk for 20 minutes of shut-eye. But I don’t dare try it or ten people will ask me if I’m okay and someone will call for an ambulance (cube farm, no privacy). Anybody else here occasionally have trouble getting through the work day because you’re so sleepy?

Yes. Very much so. And I’ve thought about nap rooms myself on occasion. I think it would be a great idea if there was someplace I could just lay down for 20 minutes. I don’t smoke. I don’t take any coffee breaks, and I eat lunch at my desk.

I would love a 20 minute nap occasionally.

I believe they have something like naps in some countries with a Spanishbackground.

I just found out my workplace has a nap room. It’s called the “quiet room” and it’s awesome.

It’s just an approx. 5’ X 5’ room with a reclining chair, footstool, table, and lockable door.

We’ve got them where I work (big law firm). But they’re pretty much only for people who have worked through the night, as junior lawyers are often required to. And only for the lawyers.

When I worked for the 911 agency we had one and it was glorious. The dispatchers did 12-hour shifts, and because of staffing problems often worked 1.5 shifts or came in for a full shift on days off, so they really seriously needed it. But I (who just did computer support) would occasionally benefit from it too. It’s so nice to lay back in a dark room for a few minutes.

It’s a shame that we still have the old “asleep on the job is a fireable offense” thing in office work. Asleep all day? Sure, fire away. But there shouldn’t be a taboo against the occasional power nap.

I’ve never had a nap room but when I was relatively new to my job I came in and got sick in the middle of the morning. No vomiting or anything like that but I definitely crashed, got tired, dizzy, flushed, etc. My coworker looked at me and said “why don’t you go out to your car for about 20 minutes?” A 20 minute nap definitely helped.

Get one of these things. Also doubles as a decent alien costume.

It can be done:

I occasionally hop out to the parking garage and take 25 mins in the back seat of my car. It’s amazing what it does for me on days when my tail is dragging. Gives me a true burst of energy. Wish I had somewhere a bit more comfy to go, but management doesn’t think it’s a grand idea to provide us with one.

If you have lay back seats for the workers and let them wind them back to nap it makes the bus passengers nervous.

Although I guess you could stop the bus first.
