You replied that people shouldn’t go there to “play therapist” unless there’s a “severe psychiatric emergency”. Guinastasia answered that the situation is indeed a “severe psychiatric emergency”, given that people are already starting to commit suicide. And you came back with your “so you don’t see the difference between people with actual psychiatric problems and whiners crying over their widdle pets” line, which is the strawman: Guinastasia and you weren’t talking about the pets anymore. When people living through a natural disaster are starting to commit suicide, it probably is the time for mental health professionals to come “play therapist”.

And on the subject of the OP–the “only the OP can request a thread be closed” thing is a custom, not a rule. Any poster can request anything they want. Whether they get laughed at or not is another story. Lynn already said that she chose the wrong message to copy in her closing statement. What more do you want? Lynn’s been doing this a long time, and I certainly trust her judgement on such matters.
Now, if you, davenportavenger, have something more you want to say to or about Shirley Ujest, why don’t you just go ahead and start your own pit thread? Provide a link to the locked thread, and explain your position.

As much as I hate pulling rank, anybody else notice that this thread talking about the good ole days of the Dope was started by a 2004er and is filled with 2000ers and 2001ers (no offense, severus. Great posts.) saying, “No, that’s not what the Pit was like at all.” Little things like that amuse me.

Hey, davenport, flaming’s flaming and fun is fun, but there comes points in Pit threads where anymore flaming is just a waste of electrons. Wanta flame for flame’s sake? There’s plenty of places on the web where you can do that, just not here. Not ever in my experience.
