I was printing some stuff out. Print, print, print. Worked fine. Then, in the middle of a page, it stopped printing and nothing got it working again. I restarted the computer. The power did not come back on, and I’ve not been able to get it to come back on since. Does it seem odd to anyone else that it just cut out with no warning? What could the problem be? I checked all the cords and they are firmly attached.
Does it make any sound at all? Paper jam maybe? Mine did that once, but at least the error light was flashing…sounds you have no power to it at all?
This irks me to no end. Why can’t there be a little light or a bell or something that goes off to relay the message “WARNING! PRINTER IS ABOUT TO DIE!”
Seriously, when something goes totally dead we always suspect the power supply/source first. Short of getting it serviced, the only thing you can do to localize the fault is install a known working printer, or take your printer and install it on another PC with a known working printer port.
Sounds like a some critical electronics component died which usually is usually a very bad thing for printers. You might want to check the powerstrip it’s attached to on the off chance the strip breaker threw, or if you have a volt meter and the unit uses an external transformer (black box with cord attached that plugs into the wall and the printer) you can check to see if it’s putting out current.
Try plugging it directly (without power strip) into another known good wall outlet elsewhere to solve the mystery of a possible breaker throw.
If this does not work the likelihood is that one of the unit’s internal PS or external PS components is fried. Unless the printer is pretty expensive or under warranty most of the time they have reached the status of near disposable items. Good Luck!
I have one like that. Now the three lights just blink at me; red, yellow, green, red, yellow, green. The HP support page says that means it should be taken to an HP service provider. Yeah, right, like a hundred dollar printer is worth a $110 service bill. Why don’t they just say, “Blinking lights mean throw it away”?
What kind of printer is this? what kind of computer HennaDancer? sometimes the power cable has to be tightened at the printer too.
