Why did they dub an obviously grown-up voice over Elle’s speaking parts? It was utterly dumb to hear a woman’s voice from a little girl.
IMO it was a mistake. So why did they choose to do it?

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but do you think they had Cate Blanchett do the dubbing? That would at least make a tiny bit of sense. But it’s not like Elle needs to be dubbed: she’s a pretty talented little girl.
Yeah it was Cate that did the dubbing. Which I think actually made it worse. Because Cate has a distinctive, highly recognisable voice. So to see Elle moving her lips and be hearing Cate Blanchett was just weird.
It’s funny, but when watching the movie, I didn’t even notice it was looped with Cate’s voice. But after watching the special features, you can certainly hear the difference. I can see why Fincher wanted to do it, but I agree with Lobsang, I don’t think it added anything to the performance, and if anything gives it an uncanny result.
Probably a mistake, but didn’t ruin it for me. The digital head-replacement they did with Brad was incredible though. I can’t believe that’s all CG (albeit, with performance capture), even after seeing how Digital Domain did it.
