Why didn't these posts in the Pit warrant any mod notice at all?

Getting your panties jammed into a wad over Bo’s catchphrase is staggeringly stupid and childish. IT IS innocuous. And, actually, pretty funny. I still LOL when I see it; he uses it pretty sparingly. I wholly support his use of it. People calling for him to banned for it–especially after the mods explicitly ruled it was allowed–are pretty fucking far out in left field. We’re talking out of the ball park and onto the filthy street corner where the pimps and crack dealers congregate.

But the fact is, no matter how irrationally enraged one is at Bo’s silly but hilarious catchphrase, he raised a totally valid question:

Why is the “and variants” portion of Ed’s Rule being ignored by the mods?

Can we count on an official ruling that only the literal cunt-fucking-type phrases are forbidden? That all variants are fair game?

Right now the allowed usage is illogical and inconsistent.

So you don’t mind people who go into a thread to post nothing except “LOL”? Thats what he does after all, for all that it is dressed up in the most retarded fashion. He posts to say nothing except “LOL”.

He has every right to do it of course, but posters like that deserve all the scorn they get.

What Bo does is far more clever and not nearly as irritating as your example. And I for one think Bo’s usage, which he uses only occasionally, is still funny.

Regardless, the rules are the rules. The mods ruled that Bo’s catchphrase is allowed.

Ed’s Rule, with the “and variants” clause, however, is being either outright ignored or treated quite inconsistently. And that’s a problem.

Irritation with Bo’s catchphrase is no excuse.

I will keep in mind your definition of “clever” when considering your arguments from now on.

LOL.

This deserves nothing more than a .

Seriously? You can’t concede that quoting a very funny moment of a TV comedy in place of LOL occasionally isn’t more clever than just spamming LOL?

All of this is a distraction from the present issue.

Does the “and variants” clause in Ed’s Rule mean anything or not? Mods?

No.

Agreed. It’s not clever it’s just another version of “look at me!!”

I wasn’t aware that MPSIMS became a TV series.

Well, it’s not a choice I would make. Or ever have made. I don’t use catchphrases.

Bottom line: Bo’s catchphrase was permitted by the mods.

The same mods that are being inconsistent with the “and variants” clause of Ed’s Rule.

Whatever one thinks of Bo’s catchphrase has no bearing on the latter question.

And we get to disagree with you on that one, Knorf.

Seriosuly. A lot of people say stupid shit on this board. Sometimes it’s funny and sometimes it’s snot. Don’t make me have to buy everyone a Panty Unjammer* for Christmas.

I’d like an answer to this too. It would be nice to know where the line is so I don’t accidentally run over it.

So, you’d say that annoyance with Bo’s administratively allowed catch phrase justifies utterly ignoring the “and variants” clause to Ed’s Rule?

You sure about that?

*boldings mine.

Looks like you got yourself a new catchphrase. Every time I read your posts, I’m going to silently add the words, “And variants!” at the end, picturing you looking at me like this.
I think maybe you are right. When the phrase originated on the Office, maybe it was funny or clever. I don’t really watch the Office, so I don’t know. I know it made me laugh when I first heard it used as a replacement for ‘LOL’. In it’s original context as a replacement for LOL it truly is chuckle worthy. But if you find it clever in the way Bo is using it, I am perplexed about that. Don’t get me wrong, I realize you have a right to your brand of humor. I am just honestly surprised that our ideas of clever can be so very very different.

To be clear, I said it was more clever than just spamming “LOL” over and over. But, yeah, Bo uses it sparingly enough that it still gives me a chuckle when I see it.

I’m assuming we’ll get a mod ruling on the phrase-I-am-no-longer-using-after-your-stinging-rebuke any day now. Hope is good stuff.

It’s ok, you don’t have to actually use the phrase anymore. We’re all thinking it.

Frankly, it works better that way.

For the record, I agree that Bo using the phrase shouldn’t be a big deal. Just because I don’t find it funny doesn’t mean that it bothers me when he uses it. It really doesn’t.

Should I take this as an answer to the question I asked and then re-asked in post #19?

If you keep using the word “variants,” you’re gonna have a bad time. It’s clearly on the list of outlawed terms.
