Why do Belgians kill babies? [RO]

Based on what info, clair? I’ve read the only thing police have got out of him is laughter and nonsensical comments? I wonder if this will put CP back on the table in Belgium at least? Killing this person without at least attempting to profile him would be a waste. Or do some of you believe there is nothing to be learned from this sub-human piece of shit?

I believe we can learn what he sounds like if he was fed to a tiger.

I don’t know. It was simply mentioned on TV. I tried to google (quickly), but didn’t find an online article mentioning or explaining it yet.

You’re right. You’ve uncovered the dreadful secret of this message board: we’re all secretly in favor of stabbing dead babies. Except for featherlou, but that’s only because she’s Canadian, and therefore, better than all us dreadful Americans.

Seriously, can anyone shed some light on this attitude? An indesrcibably terrible crime has been committed. Some people react to it with humor. So what? If we put on sackcloth and smear ourselves with ashes, does it make the victims less dead? Is there a fear that someone might read this thread, and get the idea that shiving a toddler is a good way to make friends and influence people? How is making jokes out of subject like this in anyway a morally or ethically inferior reaction than standing around with serious looks on our faces? Because as near as I can tell, neither reaction harms anyone, anywhere in the world, nor does either reaction help anyone. So what’s with the high hat, bub?

I only stab live babies thank you very much.

Okay, that made me laugh.

The rest of the thread: not so much.

Yeah because feeding adults to a tiger is funnier than feeding babies to a tiger  NOT!

You are suggesting anyone in Belgium would suggest they abandon the EU so they can execute this guy? Are you nuts?

Because 1) it was unexpected and 2) I have far less innate sympathy for baby stabbers than for the babies themselves. I’m funny like that.

Over here:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1126908/Man-charged-killing-toddlers-teacher-Belgiums-Dunblane-linked-murder-OAP.html

is an excellent British newspaper account.

Yeah but what would the tiger prefer? I bet it would rather go for the juicy baby. Have you no feelings for the tiger? What would PETA say?

Let’s feed them to the tiger, too, and find out.

I respond to most things with a joke. My monkeysphere keeps getting smaller and smaller with each outrage. But feel free to call me heartless and American. I don’t mind.

The BBC also reported that he had the addresses of other creches with him and is suspected of killing a 73-year-old woman, but that is, of course, only what the prosecutor’s saying, not what’s been proven in court, so shouldn’t be treated as fact.

I’d hope that there will be a lot of investigaton into why he did what he did, rather than just punishing him.

Perhaps security at such creches should be increased too - but then, you don’t want to send your babies and young children to a place that looks like a prison block - you want them to have some freedom, too. This sort of killing is very rare indeed, so you could say that it shouldn’t be the basis of legislation and/or common practice; all the same, it couldn’t have happened in a nursery which had an extra locked door between reception and the main nursery. Most (possibly all - I’m not sure) UK primary schools have that now, after the shootings in Scotland that Jjimm spoke about.

I don’t understand how anyone (from any country - show me where I disparaged Americans? Show me where this is an American-only board?) can read stuff like this:

Or this:

(From the other linked BBC page).

And immediately use it as a joke.

I honestly don’t get it.

We make jokes because if you sit and stew about every single horrible atrocity that comes down the AP wire, you’re going to shortly end up in a place where the only reasonable action is eating the business end of a handgun. Jokes give you a handle on how to deal with terrible things. If you can laugh at something, then you’re bigger than it is. You have power over it. You can manage it. And featherlou insinuation to the contrary, the closer to home something is, the more you joke about it. You should see me when I’m in a hospital - I swear to God, you could sell tickets. Because the alternative is freaking out about something over which I have absolutely no control. And what fucking good is that?

I asked a question in my last post, and I suspect that the flippancy in the post made you ignore it, but I did actually want to know the answer: when you read the posts in this thread, were you actually under the impression that nobody here had a problem with stabbing small children to death? That we were actually entirely devoid of any compassion for the victims and their families? Is that what you really, honestly, thought was going on in this thread?

Since you insist on pursuing this: my concern for the theoretical appetites of an imaginary tiger is pretty close to nil. And while I would likely object to an ACTUAL proposal to feed the baby stabber to an ACTUAL tiger on the grounds that he should go through the justice system like everyone else, I feel no guilt for imagining FANTASY gruesomeness happening to a man who killed ACTUAL babies.

'Kay?

Because fuck knows we all have 20/20 hindsight goggles available freely at any major office supply store, and if the person who opened the door wasn’t wearing them they deserve everything they get.

I know that the closer you are to a situation, the more likely you are to joke about it. That’s why I understand people working in hospitals and the like having a particular dark humour about their jobs - one which doesn’t always work out of context, but it does within context.

I don’t think those people would be about to go on a rampage stabbing babies themselves. I don’t think they’d point and cackle at bereaved parents standing right in front of them. I do think they’re showing a lack of compassion, yes, or rather, lack of empathy. Look! Dead babies! Hahaha!

What on Earth else am I supposed to think? These people laughing at dead babies - they’re so compassionate!

Really, you read the news articles, and your response was to laugh?

I dunno, this tiger story was pretty damn funny.

Hmm,found out last night our guildmaster in World of Warcraft lives in the same town as Kim de Gelder(the Joker wannabe), his parents know the parents of Kim de G,

And so what? He can waddle over to the jail and rub Cheeto dust on him?
