Why Do Fashion Houses Do This?

My wife saw an outfit which was advertised in a fashion magazine. She liked it and wanted to buy it…only when she checked the designer’s website, it was nowhere to be found. She called a local store, and they had no info as to when that style would be available.
My question: what is the point of advertising stuff that you don’t have?
Granted, maybe it is a smmer item, that isn’t in the stores yet…but you would think someone would anticipate this.

Most mags that I’ve seen publish purchasing info for the stuff they feature, usually in the back.

Which magazine was it?

Women’s clothes designers are sadistic, evil bastards. That’s my view and I see no reason to change it.

A few years ago, I saw an Ann Taylor ad in a magazine with a beautiful dress. So I immediately went to their website to see how much it cost. It was nowhere to be found. About 2 weeks later, it suddenly appeared, with the rest of the new collection. So maybe just try again in a week or so.
