That’s probably not a very diplomatic way of saying what I mean. But anyways, of the kind of women who love to slather themselves in makeup, bleach their hair, and wear high heels and a short skirt - what is it they are trying to achieve?
Is it because they are trying to make some kind of statement about themselves?
Is it because this is how the media expects women to look if they want to attract a male?
Is it because they actually are a self-fulfilling stereotype, and are exactly the kind of women that they appear to be after all that artifice?
And more alarmingly, why does it work so well on some guys?
I think women do it because when men wear those sorts of things it usualy just doesn’t work.
Seriously such clothing extenuates the womens sexual display, making legs seem longer and smoother, breasts and ass jut out more. Lip stick makes the mouth look bigger, eye makeup makes the eyes more pronounced. It’s realy like a man putting a sock down the front of his pants and wearing a girdle to keep his stomach flat. Only that women can get away with that kind of pretense.
Obviously it’s because people like it when they do. Because I don’t like it - I think they look repulsive and artifical and disgusting. I figured maybe I would hear a chorus of "yeah, I hate that"s but I am clearly in theminority.
I know this sounds strange, but I think it’s sexier when a nice looking woman covers her assets vs. letting it all hang out. I’m not sure why. Perhaps it’s because my imagination is more active when I’m trying to visualize something I can’t see.
Be careful of cultural bias, too. Here in the “puritannical” US of A, many of us have been raised to believe that such clothes are signifiers of behavior, but go to Latin America or Puerto Rico, and women often dress “slutty” without being exposed to the same bias. The association between dress and behavior isn’t as strong, and the prejudice against such women isn’t as great.
When I was about 13 my regular shoes were silver 5 inch heels, and I regularly found myself in mini purple tennis skirts and braless slip dresses. I also had bleached blonde hair, and though I didn’t cake on foundation I often went crazy with the sparkly eye makeup. I was not a slut. I was anything but. And the negative attention I got wasn’t much worse than when I went out in a sweatsuit. Why did I do it? It was fun. I liked to play dress-up. I had a school uniform so free dress was a way to express myself, the crazier the better. There’s not much more to it. I really had no idea how revealing some of my outfits were (I can now stare at myself in disbelief in old photos), and it wasn’t hurting anyone (myself included), so what’s the big deal?
The last time a woman dressed that way to date me, I was flattered. When I went to the loo, another guy moved in to chat her up. I don’t know why women dress that way for us, but I don’t argue with fate when it happens.

Our department once had a secretary that was hired because she had a nice face and big breasts. I know this for a fact because the manager who hired her, when speaking to us about our knew admin assitant, had a freudian slip and said "..I think you’ll like them "when he meant* “…I think you’ll like her”* To be polite, she was not very intelligent or resourceful. She would expect balancing a checkbook to be a party trick you did on your nose, had not filed and income tax return for 10 years because it was boring and hard, required very basic, step-by-step instructions, and God help you if she booked your travel arrangements. (London, Ontario vs. London, England, anyone?) To be fair, she did have a decent understanding of social skillls, and a sweet disposition. Yet after she started you wouldn’t believe how much the response time from IS tech support went down, and how suddenly we were able to book all the hot meeting rooms, how facilities now fixed all our problems within a half day. It’s scary to say how those two breasts increased the efficiency of our deparment.
It was like she had the Jedi mind control trick in her boobs or something. It really opened my eyes to how much some women can use their looks as a tool to manipulate men into going completely out of their way for a smile, furtive glances at her cleavage, and two minutes of flirting.
Although it can seem demeaning to women, I admit that such power would be hard not to use, especially considering how far it got her. So perhaps that’s why they do it.
So they can say: “Those aren’t the droids you’re looking for…”
So you’re saying that the women who dress this way in Latin America or Puerto Rico don’t act the same way that the American women do? Are they less likely to sleep with a stranger, even if they wear what the OP is terming as slutty? And I’m not saying they are or are not slutty. I’m seriously asking if you can’t judge a latin girl by the amount of skin she shows. I’ve never been there so I don’t know. One thing I’m thinking about is Carnival. It just seems like a Marti Gras kind of hedonistic celebration. It’s not? I was under the impression that it’s even MORE hedonistic. That it was to Marti Gras what Vegas is to Atlantic City.
Actually, I’m sorry to say that it’s very likely that you DID hurt some people. Some guys no doubt looked at you and lusted after you. That brought them down a sinful path. What if some 21 year old guy looked at you lustfully? Encouraging a 21 year old guy to lust after a 13 year old is bad for the 21 year old guy.
Oh, and I really don’t want to get into an argument about what is harmful or not harmful. I just want to let you know that some people feel that scantily clad women make their lives more difficult. The younger the scantily clad woman is, the worse (more illegal) the temptation could be.

This is what sparked my question - is she dressing this way because it’s expected of her; because she is trying to attract males; or is it something she likes to do because she ‘feels like a woman’?
Obviously you can’t know exactly what she’s thinking herself, but other women out there who have done the same thing, is there a common motive?
And more directly, what the hell are you thinking? I so much prefer sweet and pretty to slutty. Every time. (Not that women seem to care one jot what I think, but still…)
