It’s funny, I had a dream a few weeks ago about my grandmother. She was reminding me about the savings bonds she had purchased for all of the grandkids when we were born. I had forgotten about it until this thread, so I checked out that link.
No savings bonds I could find, nothing in my name at all. But I did check out everyone in my family and discovered that both my father and great-aunt had money out there for the gettin’!
Now if only I could find them to let them know…
Cool. I just did a search under my last name from when we lived in Wisconsin and there are 3 items under my parents names. It doesn’t tell you how much they are for or anything though. You have to fill in some information and I guess they’ll respond to you with more information. I’ll have to tell my parents, but my dad might be reluctant to chase anything down. I have no idea what kind of financial state we left everything behind when me moved out of the country. But, my guess would be ‘not so good’.
Too bad they don’t reveal the amounts. CA doesn’t seem to have a problem with that.
Everyone should inform family, friends, neighbors, etc. about the possibility of finding funds out there. You never know. I certainly didn’t, until I got that letter from a company wanting to be my middleman. There was no reason to use them, but I’m glad they let me know.
$458 from an old college address. Thanks Otto!
I tell ya, this site pays for itself!
Found $350 for the in-laws, and the same for his brother… must have been money that came via his parents, as the address listed with the state was for his parent’s old address… they’ve been gone for 30+ years now.
I found something under my name, but we’ve not called quite yet, or else, it wasn’t enough for the Mrs. Butler to call me at work.
Well, I’m glad for all of you that I started this thread, but I’m still wonder what that “property” was.
The “check” arrived today.
I’ve been staring at it suspiciously all day.
I’m sure it’s a perfectly normal check. Your ship has come in!
By depositing that check you agree to sell your soul to friedo for a nickel
Perfectly normal.

You’re kidding, right? What’s the catch?
No idea what it could be? Not an unclaimed security deposit from an apartment? An unclaimed paycheck? Other stuff mentioned here?
On a search a few years ago I found two accounts for my relatives. One was my cousin–my aunt looked into it for him and it turns out he had forgotten to pick up his last paycheck when he moved. He was thrilled to get that. The other was my uncle, who said he was aware of it–it was some miniscule amount from an overpayment of some bill. The paperwork required to prove it was his wasn’t worth his time.
I think there is something for my husband but I’m not sure–there are two people in this town with the same name, it could be the other guy. I never followed up, which is daft of me. Maybe I’ll do that today.
Since we’re posting to it again… Mine is $136 from my current insurance company… why they couldn’t find me is unclear, as I’ve still got the same car, and the same policy, and the same agent. My address has changed, however.
We’ve a suspicion though, that it is from part of an class action suit of some variety, and they only gave the plaintiff’s attorneys as much information as they HAD to.
I have to send back some information proving I lived there, and thankfully, I still had an old registration that showed my old address.
Nearly $1000 between 3 people, all for 3 minutes of websearching… now if only I could have that success full time!!!

“Property” can mean all sorts of things: old bank accounts, old phone accounts, insurance stuff, mortgage stuff, estate matters, retirement/pension funds (like the one my check was for) and so on.
No idea whatsoever. Scout’s honor. None of the above.
When I lost the “property,” apparently, I was living in a Hollywood dingbat called the “Lovely Living Arms.” That was 12 years ago, and I can tell you, the living for me wasn’t all that loving. Any cent anybody owed me I would have claimed in second.
I know that. But I’d had only one bank account in my life, at that time; I more than likely owed the phone company; I had no insurance; mortgage?..estate?..HAH!;retirement/pension?..DOUBLE HAH!..I’m still at a loss…:sigh
