Why do you like Donald Trump as President?

His attested greed provokes me to a question I have been mulling over: Is he broke?

Is he so constipated for cash he has to squeeze every bit? Sure, putting up Secret Service agents at this hotels brings in some sorta sordid cash, but not that much. Is that why he started his 2020 Campaign so soon after his Inauguration, the Bible hadn’t stopped smoldering yet. So that the RNC can pay him a $500,000 per diem? (No cite will be offered, the number is anally speculative.)

He’s got a 25 million dollar settlement for buggering all those dumfuks with Trump University. Can’t find any mention of a dime changing hands. Why? The appeals are over, he has to cough up, there is no advantage to delay. Unless, of course, he doesn’t have it.

A piddling $130,000, and his lawyer has to mortgage property to get it? A friggin’ billionaire? If Mark Cuban’s car has a flat, he has a duplicate delivered by copter!

Also, I’d really like if if Weird Al could do a deep fake of Julie Andrews in Sound of Music singing “Schadenfreude” to the tune of “Edelweiss”.

Hadn’t seen that bit of ignorance. I’m a ‘liberal’, and I guess ‘pro’ gun since I own 10 that where handed down to me by my family.

.357 is just a .380 auto with a bit more powder. Right? (they are the same diameter .357 shoots .38 special just fine). I’ve a Marlin 336er chambered in .356 Win. That’s a cannon, that makes the .357 look like a pop gun.

And really, the reason that the 5.56/.223 became the standard round is that it still is plenty accurate, causes plenty of damage and a soldier can carry many more rounds.

postpic200. Your argument about .22’s may fool some, but it’s not likely to do so here.

Add to that he prefers Chinese steel and aluminum over American, all his products other than MAGA crap is made overseas and he cheered layoffs at Macy’s.

And hires foreign workers for his hotels rather than hiring Americans and paying a decent wage.

Guessing that that’s how he stays rich. Squeeze everyone, and every dollar for all it’s worth, threaten lawsuits until people back down, leave other people holding the bag. That’s his entire business philosophy. He’s been dirty for decades.

I don’t care how rich he is. But he does. And this may point to his need for Russian ‘help’. Nobody in the US will touch him anymore.

And China is involved with a 500 million dollar deal with him now? He hasn’t been impeached? The entire GOP is thick as thieves. WTF?

About those tax returns…

Don’t you know that would require spending money, government money, to them. They can’t be getting no durn gubmint handouts!

And they’ve been taught for decades that gubmint handouts are shameful.

That, and a lot of them don’t want retraining.

The Doomfarers of Coramonde settled that, I thought. Oh wait, that was just an APC.

It’s only shameful if you need it.

There is a lot to debate in that but I think it counts as an answer to the OP. Not just in the details, but in the whole approach that makes Left and Right so much like dogs and cats that don’t understand each other.

What does your friend want? Moral clarity. Not factual accuracy or experience and expertise or evidence-based policy, certainly not technocracy. Moral clarity.

See, I think a lot of dopers are oriented towards the Logos mode of persuasion. Insofar as your friend’s remarks are representative of the right, Trump supporters are oriented towards Ethos. It isn’t as if there is not a style of reasoning and logic to that, but it ends up concerned with different things than Logos.

WTF moral clarity is there with Trump? “That he is completely immoral” seems to be the only clear thing regarding morals and that twerp.

Yah well I don’t think I have it all figured out yet. But it seems to be a messaging thing- the propaganda is reaching righties because they know to frame their lies in terms of ethos to make them easier to swallow? The guy in the letter was feeling it at least. That’s the American problem- we’ve become strangers to each other.

He means those instincts that have led Trump to file for bankruptcy multiple times and earn a credit history so stank no reputable American bank will loan him a dime? Maybe he means his instinct to lie so badly he makes himself look extra credible to the gullible?

This is pure faith talking. When Trump does something, we can be sure it’s the right something, even though our brain wants us to think otherwise. That’s Trump magic, you see.

Actually he literally did not.

I guess he missed all the news articles about Trump’s deep and abiding love for stiffing American workers.

Right, because there’s something “fun” about watching the President call undocumented immigrants animals, certain countries shitholes, protesting athletes sons of bitches, and mainstream news fake news. So much fun.

My analysis is different. It’s clear he is projecting onto Trump an image of an ingenious businessman whose expert judgement and decisive leadership is an antidote to all our problems. He wants Trump to be an intellectual giant, the person we can trust knows better than everyone because of his knowledge and skill.

His last paragraph is all the stuff that we should be able to say about Trump, if Trump was actually the person who he marketed himself as. He doesn’t see anything that’s detracts from this image because he needs to believe that is who he voted for.

I can see that. The people need a hero and somebody had to be put into the mold. Lotta discordance there though!

Going back to coal, people pretty much accept that the Ahmish resist technological progress on purpose. They use horses and pay phones. Appalachians use coal- they have tons of coal, coal plants, coal markets- as long as the coal burns, the lights stay on. It is a 100+ year old tradition. They don’t want solar panels and wind mills- too weird, too hard, and coal already works.

Me, I like solar and wind. I like battery technology advancements. I don’t think I am a “liberal”, but my question with nuclear power is always: where can we safely store Anything for 500,000 years?

Lack of morals is a type of morality, in the same way that motionlessness is a measure of speed.

There is vitrification process that basically seals the dangerous actinides in a stable block of inert glassy material. That should be good enough for several millennia.

" “Because we’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.” Hillary. And yes many people have said coal is evil.

yes Flintlock Repeating Musket - 1786 before that 1722 the Puckle gun was able to fire 63 shots in seven minute and many more. Congress didn’t buy them because they were expensive, but they did exist. There were also multi shot pistols.

By astray, I mean astray, the question is “Why do you like Donald Trump as President?” So far very little on Trump, but a lot on coal, gun, nuclear power, etc. BTW I really don’t care if you agree with me or not if you bring facts that can be checked. I will point you to where I get my facts, on guns it’s generally the FBI or some other governmental organization. I tend to avoid Fox, VOX, CNN etc as sources unless I can verify what they say is true.
