Have a pretty good Samsung DVD player, about 2 years old. I find almost all the discs I get from Netflix, even new ones, will suddenly show a odd pattern, then skip ahead a ways. This can happen anywhere in the movie. Yesterday a friend loaned me a film he had bought, and although it looked clean, it did the same thing.
If I take the disc out and clean it, everything is OK, so mostly just clean them before starting. Is this common? On most of the newly issued ones, cannot see any dirt, scratches or fingerprints that would cause this.
I understand nothing in a DVD player actually touchs the disc, so would not think it was the machine, but the discs.
Yes, it’s almost certainly your player that has the problem, especiallly if you can’t see any scratches. I’ve never had a problem with any netflix movies, even when they did have some visible scratches and smudges. I second the advice of trying to clean the lens in your player.
Thanks, Mr Sky (hey, can I call you Blue? ) that makes sense, so have just ordered a lens cleaner.
I’ve cleaned the heads on my tape players for years, but didn’t have a clue how to get into the DVD box, but after reading about it, the cleaner device seems simple and easy to use.
