Why does pizza defy the laws of physics?

With my moms’ beef stroganoff, which is my favorite food, I generally eat half a not-piled-high plateful before I feel stuffed, and I get it so infrequently I almost always overeat because I miss the taste so much. Mom’s stroganoff is about the limit of what I can eat the most of.
Except pizza. I can eat a whole pizza if nobody’s watching. My husband’s the same way. There cannot be room in my stomach for all this food! Is pizza infinitely compressible? What gives?

pig.

It’s the calories, man!
I just looked at the calorie content of the Jacks Supreme pizza in my freezer. Eating the entire thing would be 1200 calories.
A Mcdonalds Big Mac w/large fries would be 1100 calories. You probably wouldn’t be as shocked if you ate the 'Mac n fries.

What surprises me is how much alcohol a pizza can soak up.
Even for a guy my size 6 beers in an hour is going to give me a little buzz. Yet chowing down a pizza I’ve been known to drink that much and more with no felt affect. Food does slow alcohol consumption, but pizza is the champion at it!

It’ll be good when school starts back up.

The other-than-bread ingredients for a flat-crust pizza are spread out pretty thinly. If you don’t eat the crusts, you’ve left out a significant chunk. I’ll WAG that there is some illusion as to how much is really there.

Yeah, plus how thick it is too. I might eat a whole pizza too, but think crust & thin sause & thin cheese.

I too have been amazed at my ability to eat loads of pizza. I’m usually a light eater but I inhale pizza at an alarming rate.

I can’t say the same for pizza, but I can eat massive amounts of Chinese takeout Pepper Steak without feeling full.

Anyways, what kinda pizza are you talking about here? Homemade or delivery? Donatos? Pizza Hut? Thick or thin crust? What toppings?

A slight hijack but still related to food defying the laws of physics:

How do fried mushrooms get and stay so bloody hot? There HAS to be a violation of some Law of Thermodynamics there…You get an innocent looking mushroom covered in tasty fried breading. You pick it up, warm to the touch but not painfully so. You bite into it…
AAAAHHHHHH
The fire of a THOUSAND SUNS in your mouth!

It’s not the mushroom that’s hot, it’s the grease!

It’s not the grease that’s hot, it’s the steam.

Same story to tell over here. I’m 5’10", weigh 165 pounds, and I can polish off an entire 18" pizza by myself at one sitting.

Disgusting.

I think the ‘cram factor’ of pizza has a lot to do with the thickness of it. I have no problem at all eating an entire 18" pie by myself if it is of the thin crust(neopolitan) style, but if it is deep dish(like Uno’s) two pieces will leave me immobile on the couch. I think what makes the deep dish all the more stomach-punishing is the cheese content. A thin crust pizza is really just bread with a sprinkling of delicious cheese, while deep dish can be a 2" deep bread pan full of cheese which will surely knock a head out for a little while.

And now I’m hungry.
