Why does sperm...

…get so sticky when mixed with water

I’m sure some qualified people will mention protein crosslinking and other stuff - but can you imagine if it didn’t?

Stand up, and there goes the human population running down your leg…

Yeah, bit of an exaggeration but you get the idea.

Ok, I’ll ask.
Why are you mixing sperm with water?

Hand washing?

Related question: what is it in sperm that makes it sticky in the first place? Not when you mix it with water (?), but rather already when it exits the body.

For beajerry and others that are confused, there are a lot of instances where sperm gets mixed with water. If you ever have an amount of it on your hands and go to wash your hands without soap, it’s almost like there’s sticky tree sap there. It’s very sticky, almost impossible to get off without soap. So anyway… good question.

My WAG would be that it doesn’t mix with water so that it can get to the egg without being diluted by vaginal juices.

Hmm. You need soap? Freaks.

I always thought the stickiness was related to sugar-like protiens.

And what the hell is up with that yellowish-gel-like-lumpy stuff? Seems to be more prevalent after a long period of, uh, not “doing it”. And has anyone else ever seen blood in theirs? I should not know this much about the fluids that emanate from my body. :stuck_out_tongue:
