I set the default for Show Threads to “From the last 2 days” for all forums.
Why does it keep changing on me? I’ll open up the Dope and find it set to the Beginning. Today I changed it back to 2 days and then went from one forum to another and found it set at Last 10 days. Even if those are defaults for specific forums shouldn’t my setting override that? It sometimes does, but often not and sometimes all forums are set to the beginning.
How can I keep it set where I want it?

It is my understanding that 2 days is the overall default but you should be able to change it to what you want.

Just to say – it’s still happening. I change a forum to, say, “week” and that’s what it displays. Then visit another forum or two. Do not close the browser or anything. Come back to the first forum and, damn, it’s back to “beginning” or something.
Where are you changing it? If you change it at the bottom of the forum that’s only temporary and it will revert back to the forum default the next time you visit that page. There’s a setting in your user control panel if you want to make the change permanent.

So now my wish list includes a desire to set the forums individually. (Guess I’ll never be satisfied.)
Oh, and **TubaDiva **-- different fora seem to have different defaults, not all at 2 days. At least mine displayed different lengths when my CP was set to “forum default”
Okay, I see we’ve been a bit confused here.
As said above, if you change the default view of a forum from the dropdown menu on the forum page, that will only work for as long as you are in that forum and on that page; then it returns to the default.
The default value is based on what you set in the User Control Panel. It looks like this:

You may specify a time period from which to display threads. Threads older than the age you specify will not be shown.
The choices you have in the dropdown menu are:
Use Forum Default
Show threads from … [from last day to show all threads]
The global forum default is two days.
So you can ride with the global forum default (which is two days). Or you can reset the global parameters to be what you want from the User Control Panel. This sets system-wide and not for each forum individually. You can’t permanently change the forum default view for each individual forum.
The dropdown menu on each page only changes the default for that particular time you are in the forum and will revert back to the global default on your next session.
I’m afraid that what you’re asking for is not possible.
My settings were at “use global default”. If the global default is 2 days, then I should never see anything else. I did. I saw 10 days, which either means that some forums are set to 10 days or there is a bug somewhere. And nothing can explain why I often found forums displaying threads from the beginning. That can’t be a default. I bet it tires the hamsters, too, to format over a thousand pages.
I’ve changed my setting to 2 days. (Which is hidden under Edit Options for those who go to look.) Let’s see if anything changes. Or doesn’t change, depending which way you look at it.
Yes, exactly what Exapno Mapcase said. Either 2 days is not the global default, or something is screwy. When my CP was set to “use forum default”, different fora offered different cut offs. This isn’t any huge issue, but definitely different from what TubaDiva said.
