Why does the "Geisha" have blue eyes? Memoirs of a Geisha

I noticed on both book jackets of “Memoirs of a Geisha”, the Asian woman on the cover has blue eyes. Does anyone know why; is it symbolic for anything? I haven’t read the book. Thanks.

Do a quick search, there are at least 3 threads about this. Not meant to be snarky, just answering your question.

Her eyes are blue because they don’t have much melanin in them.

Well, based on the info in this thread, I’d say that it has something to do with the fact that they’re all raped by bears.

I did a quick search and didn’t find the answer so in the book she frequently mentions that her ‘strange’ ‘violet tinged’ eye colour is one of her defining characteristics and the reactions this elicits.
