So, there I was, having fun in a thread in MPSIMS.
This thread, in fact.
Said thread was on the second page in the list, and I assumed (incorrectly) that my post (which was pretty much a joke formed around this assumption) would jump that thread to the top of the first page.
That didn’t happen.
My post is in the thread, but the “last post” thingy doesn’t reflect that, and it didn’t move to the front page.
What happened?
Uhm…
I should have mentioned that I got that “website not respoding” message when I posted, right?
I really hate it when I stop to think, and end up answering my own questions.
Okay, the menus are put together from indexes, that list thread number, thread title, usernames of OP and last poster, and all that sort of good junk.
When the boards are getting hit heavily (as for example tonight), it’s not unusual to see the indexing facility run behind the actual submission of posts by measurable lengths of time – minutes, at least one up to a half hour.
Actually you asked a good question, especially for others that haven’t been around as long as some of us and wonder why things don’t work exactly as promised 100% of the time.
So if you don’t mind, I’m going to leave this and hopefully someone will learn from it.
Thanks!

There are no stupid questions, only stupid peo-oh, forget it.
Thanks, Polycarp. I kinda’ figured that out for myself, just after I posted the OP.
And that’s pretty much par for the course with me around here.
I don’t think this thread is going to help many people, TubaDiva, because the title is useless. It doesn’t offer any indication of what’s inside.
So, you might as well close it anyway.
She could edit the title. Say, “Why Don’t the Forum Menus Show My Last Posts?” or something like that.
So is something similar happening in this thread.
When you first open it you see my post comes just before Qadgop’s. Yet when you go to the preview page you see it’s reversed and his post comes first.
Preview page doesn’t matter.
