Why doesn't my reply show up right away, now?

I’ve been away for a month or so (silly me) and now that I’ve returned I’ve noticed a change. When I post a reply, I’m sent back to the original list of messages – but I no longer see what I wrote.

I used to like to give it one last look so that if I’d made a stupid mistake (like leaving out the word “not” – something I do rather often for some reason), I like to post a follow-up explaining my error.

I’ve searched “About This Message Board”, but I didn’t see any threads about this matter. Is it just me?

Are you educated, erudite and maybe a bit eccentric?
Please help us test a new web game!

Incidentally, I’m pleased to say that at least my new thread went up right away. So at least I don’t have to feel persecuted.

When you don’t see your response right away, you may want to try hitting “refresh” on your browser (or Ctrl-Refresh or Shift-Refresh, depending on browser).

Sometimes your browser will keep the page in cashe memory, and not update it with new posts. Hitting refresh will resolve this.

Some other times there may be a problem with the website. If you do not see something immediately do not resend your message because you will almost certainly get a double post, pissing the moderators and everyone else off.

Lately there has been a repeated problem that posts don’t show up right away. You have to wait till someone else posts a message before yours shows up. It’s thrown just about everyone at least once, and I can attest to the fact there is more than one set of multiposts from Irishman because of it. I think I’ve learned not to rehit send “just in case”.

Also the board slows and cranks forever trying to reload the page. Or you get an error message - but your post got through anyway.

Best bet: copy the text and save on your computer. Wait and see if the CGI pulled through anyway - it usually does. If not, you can repost without having to generate the message content from scratch, a big driver for why people repeatedly hit send 8 or 9 times.

Give it a chance. Please. The moderators will thank you - and so will the other members who don’t have to scroll through six pages of repeats.

One thing, since I “manually” set cookies, I’ve noticed that if two cookies get set after I post, the message has already gone through, and it will appear as sent.

rocks

*I’m glad to be here getting this information. In general, I do not correctly perform copy/paste upon various attempts using the general toobar. I’ve already asked Arnold, I think, or someone, to advise.[/]

If there were a way to preview, I’d catch these ubb errors as well as other typos.

Joe_Cool, it was.

Tim, is it possible your reply post caused a new page? If a thread goes to multiple pages, you’re always sent back to the first page after hitting “reply.” If yours happens to be the 51st post (for example), it could appear the post was lost.
