Why don’t fingernail clippers have grippier handles

Let’s get this out of the way - yes this is a first world problem.

Ok, my nails grow fast so I’m frequently having to trim them. But it’s a hassle because when I press on the clippers half of the time the slip sideways out of my hand. It seems like if the ends were rubberized they would be so much better.

I just bought a pair of nail clippers a couple weeks ago which have rubberized handles. The ones I had before that, which I lost, had slightly grippy plastic handles which I wouldn’t call rubberized but were better than metal. In other words, look around, they are out there.

Hmm, a quick google search didn’t show anything on the front page. Still I’d think they would be more common.

And while we’re on the subject: Why don’t fingernail/toenail clippers have some mechanism to catch the clippings so they don’t fly all over the place? Are they intended to be used only outdoors?

I had a pretty slippy pair once. I put a little strip of duct tape. Worked like a charm. Easy peasy!
You have duct tape, don’t you?

A couple of examples on the CVS site:

Huh? Probably 90% of the nail clippers I’ve seen have a plastic catcher on them to catch the clippings.

Oh, that plastic catcher is the first thing that goes.

Okay, maybe I should shop around some. But to be more precise, what I have is a toenail clipper, and it doesn’t have any kind of catcher. Have you found that most toenail clippers do too?

Nail clippers are garbage. Nail scissors are where it’s at.

I ask myself this question every time I use them. I’ll have to try the duct tape idea.

I use these.

They have both a rubber grip and side shields to catch the nails.

Aha. There’s even a brick-and-mortified walmart within a day’s drive of me. I should go check it out.

I’m offended, though, that the product description on that page specifically describes it as a girl thing. What, we male he-men aren’t supposed to clip our nails too? Perhaps they have a Manly Man’s version of the same product.

I didn’t even know they gender segregated nail clippers until now.

I never used the tweezers though, but the fingernail clippers and toenail clippers have been the best I’ve ever used.

A battery operated orbital grinder works great.

Headed to Wally’s tomorrow. Thanks!

I once ran across a product that said it was rubber grips in a can. That is, it was a liquid that you could dip your tool handles in and it would dry into a “rubber” coating. I can’t suggest using it because I don’t know if it’s a decent product or not. Does anyone have experience with dip-it rubber coating? Because if it works, you could buy any kind of nail clippers and then dip the relevant bits.

Nails, growing longer at mach aleph null, not to be tamed by mere clippers.

ummm … if you pull up ford.com or toyota.com website … would you expect the local dealership to have that exact model/color/style/options? so … just because walmart.com offers the product … does not mean every/any b&m walmart store carries that particular product. kerfuffle aside.

the following independent website discusses many different types … however, you’d be hard pressed to find more than one style at your local merchant … i speculate most you’d need to order from nozama (palindrome). i used palindrome … to thwart bots and ad-gens … peace out.

On the walmart website there is an option next to the photo of the item that tells you if it is in stock at your local walmart so you can check before you go…

Even if it isn’t in stock, generally at walmart you can buy an item and have it shipped to your local walmart for free to pick it up there.
