why don't i get as clean when I shower right after waking vs. waiting a few hours?

Most days, I wake up a few hours before showering. I’m not working out or doing anything out of the ordinary other than reading the newspaper, eating breakfast, etc. I then shower before going to work and everything’s fine.

But every once in a while, I’ll need to shower right after waking and get to it. I’ve noticed that when I do this, I never feel as clean as when I wait a few hours. My skin generally feels greasier even after bathing, and my hair seems to come out a bit greasy as well, compared to normal days when I wait a few hours between waking and bathing.

Why? Is this just a perception thing? Does this happen to anyone else?

No answer, but hijack:

I’ve noticed that when I take a shower after working out, my skin feels “tight.” As if I’ve knocked several layers off and now it’s overly sensitive. Often, when I take a shower even a couple of hours before bed, I realize that my skin gets quite…ripe overnight, as if I’m grinding in the dead skin in.

Anyone know what’s causing this? I generally have no problem anytime else.

Also, I notice that I sweat much more easily right after I shower than I do for the rest of the day.

OP - Maybe you live an apartment complex with a shared water heater and you’re used to getting the “fresh” stuff (replaced after your neighbors shower in the early AM) rather than the stuff that’s been sitting in the water heater all night. It does sound like a soft vs. hard water problem.

C.Pow: Hot shower opens pores and raises body temp, thus more sweating. Are you showering at the gym? They may have harder water than you do at home, causing the “tight” feeling.

Ah, I love taking random guesses. I think both of these are caused by hard vs. soft water.

Interesting theory, but I work weird hours, so either way - even if I’m showering right after I wake - I’m doing so hours after the “morning rush.”
