I am probably in the minority but I take my daily shower BEFORE bed. I guess it comes from growing up in a house with five people and one bathroom. Morning was always only for strictly needed activities in the AM, like shaving, actual bathroom use and brushing teeth.
Everyone in my family showered or bathed the night before.
So what about you all? Before bed? Or after you wake up?
I usually shower before bed, but it’s a practical matter for me. I have a large family fighting for the hot water in the mornings, so if I shower late at night I can use all that I want without having anyone rush me.
Back when I had a decent bathroom with a nice tub* I would often take a long bath in the evenings then a quick shower before work in the morning. Now that I don’t work, I shower just before bed (around 1:00 am…heading up there now) and might take a quick shower in the morning or mid-day if I feel like I should (or more likely if I am freezing cold and want the heat a shower can provide).
*My current master bathroom has only a shower stall and I hate using the kids’ bathroom because they don’t keep it as clean as I’d like.
I only shower 2-3 times a week and it’s usually either on a Saturday afternoon before going out or in the morning, if I’m really experiencing a hygiene deficit.
My hair takes hours to dry and at this time of the year it freezes if I go out in the morning with it wet, so usually I shower after dinner to give it time to dry before bed.
Evening. In the summertime I can get pretty greasy over the course of an evening’s chores, or even just hanging out. Even in other seasons, I’m often doing something in my workshop - cutting wood/metal, powdercoating, whatever - and I need to clean up before going to bed.
The other reason is that I don’t like getting up early. If I shave/shower in the evening, that’s at least another 15-20 minutes I can sleep later in the morning.
I went to a boarding school where only the 6th formers were permitted to have morning showers. Having earnt that privilege (admittedly nearly 35 years ago) I maintain that privilege. If I have a afternoon/evening shower due to sporting (or other) activities, I’ll still have my morning shower.
This is probably begging for a polll, but too late now I suppose.
Morning. Or even afternoon. I try to avoid just before bed because I don’t like going to bed with wet hair. (Wife does whenever, but she uses a hair dryer. I never could get into those myself … )
This is poll-like, so I’m moving it from MPSIMS to IMHO.
twicks, who showers at night because I turn the heat down overnight and it takes an hour or two to heat the house back up again in the morning – getting out of a lovely warm shower into a 60-degree bathroom … no thanks.
I work from home. Therefore there is no need to be all gussied up right away in the morning, so typical shower time for me is between 3 & 5pm - either late enough in the day that I go “I better shower now or I’ll forget!” or I’m getting ready to leave the house to do errands/go to dinner/meet friends.
The only exception is when I motivate myself to workout earlier in the day, I take a shower when I’m done with my workout. But most workouts are in the noon-2pm timeframe, so once again, I’m showering between 3 & 5.
I don’t have any sense of smell, so I need to be extra vigilant about matters of hygiene. I take mine in the morning, before I go out among the masses.
At night. I hate going to bed feeling sticky and grimy. Almost as much as I hate getting up in the morning. I can sleep longer if I don’t have to get up to shower. I like my hair to be dry by the time I leave the house, and have no problem going to bed while it’s wet - it makes the pillow cooler during summer.
In the morning. It helps me wake up and the steam (along with a neti pot) helps combat sinus drainage for me. If I don’t take a shower in the morning, I’ll feel congested for a good portion of the day.
Shower in the morning, for multiple reasons. Waking up, of course, and all that, but I also have two feet of hair. It takes about 2 hours for it to dry thoroughly. I hate going to bed with wet hair. I don’t mind going to work with wet hair.
