Why don't lithium-ion batteries explode when you blend them?

Alternative title 2: What’s supposed to happen when you blend Li-ion batteries?

I thought an internal short circuit in Li-ion batteries caused them to immediately release their energy, resulting in fire or explosion. However, I’ve never seen anything like this in Blendtec’s videos, despite them blending Li-ion batteries many times.

So I wonder: are the videos real, or are they swapping the devices out for dummies? If they are, where does the energy of the batteries go? Or are Li-ion batteries so advanced that catastrophic failure doesn’t happen? Also, I thought the inside of the batteries was a gel (Li-ion polymer batteries) - shouldn’t the blended powder be a bit “wet”?
