Hey,
They do make lemon ice cream–Sealtest makes one with obnoxious lemon chip things in it. Sometimes it’s called lemon custard–I love it!
Apple pie ice-cream is good!
Thank you, all. We’re now suitably confused and dad has to find some apple ice cream or arrange for a visit to the Ben & Jerry’s factory… I hate it when this happens!
Dreyer’s has an Apple Pie flavor that’s pretty good. It would be BETTER if they’d leave out the “crust” pieces, of course. The containers say it’s a “limited edition”, which I assume means “around Thanksgiving”. I bought some a couple of weeks ago, and last week when I was in the store I noticed they still hade some.
I think Dreyer’s may be a regional brand name of the same company that makes Edy’s (or maybe vice versa). The containers look almost exactly alike. They even have the same “striping”. And no, I do NOT mean Breyers, which is completely different (and IMHO much better than either).
“Dutch Apple” sometimes shows as a flavor in some of the commodity-type/semi-anonymous brands. Usually tastes so strongly of cinnamon that you’d be hard pressed to know that there’s any apple in it.
There is a farm out a little ways in the country from DC that makes apple ice cream. It is very good. Sometimes they make cinnamon apple ice cream which is even better. I suppose the major reason that apple ice cream is not mass produced is because the delicate apple flavor would be overpowered by the vanilla after a short time on the shelf.

Post the recipe, Sqrl. The one for chili fudge, not the one for Exxon Flakes.
Well, I visited Ben & Jerry’s website. The good news is they do mention their Apple Pie Ice Cream. The bad news is they mention it in a section they call the “Flavor Graveyard.” You can probably figure out what that means in terms of buying a pint.
The Graveyard brought back many memories of ice creams past: Chocolate Orange Cointreau Fudge Ice Cream, Cinnamon, Cool Britannia,
Dastardly Mash, Ethan Almond, Macadamia Nut,
Orange Cream, Raspberry, Sugar Plum, Wild Maine Blueberry, and of course the legendary
Miller Family Malt (as far as I know the only commercially made beer flavored ice cream).
Ha! I just bought some Apple Pie Ice Cream the other day. It’s made by Edy’s Grand Ice Cream (one of those brands in cylinder containers). Yes, there are apples in it.
I’ve always wondered about why we never see grape ice cream. Or sherbet…
BTW, how many of you pronounce it sherBERT? Look on the box, it says sherBET. And they make fun of Nebraskans for adding an R to “wash” (warsh).
I pronounce it like Sure-Bay, but that might just be too many failed years of trying to learn french.
Apple-Cinnamon Ice Cream is damn good. Too bad it’s hard to come by. There’s a shop round here called Cold Stone that mixes whatever ice cream you want as you order it, I wonder if they’ve got apples… I’ll have to recommend to them they keep apple pie filling on hand.

Hey Mike,
Sorry that I don’t have the recipe for chili fudge here, but I can start you off by saying it is basically the “million dollar fudge recipe” with 2-3 tbsp added chili powder in the mix. You put it in with the chocolate chips (Million dollar fudge doesn’t cook from powder). It is quite delicious and has enough of a mild kick to be interesting. It is also good if you add powdered espresso and chili, or kalua and espresso powder.

PS. I will look for the recipe when I get home, but I am not unpacked from my most recent move so don’t get your hopes up. Once I find it I will post it on MPSIMS

Thanks Sqrl. I once made a chocolate cake that had chopped jalapenos in it. The taste was great but the cake didn’t cook right so I didn’t use the recipe again.
