As a former small town freak who would on occasion get roused by the local cops all too frequently (I think 4 times in one evening was my record) my big advice is to move the hell away.
Once I moved to a larger city, where the cops have better things to do than roust kids and worry about property values, I found life much more enjoyable to live… less angry… less paranoid… less fearful of being in a situation where it would end up being a cop’s word versus mine. It’s been nearly 20 years now and I have been hassled by the cops about 3 times… that used to be a usual Saturday night.

Wow. I can see why your uncle wins so many cases. He sure sounds fearless. An attitude like that strikes terror in the hearts of opposing litigators.

It sounds to me like Unca Matlock blew you off.
JMO IANAL but I’da thunk that if you filed suit and the opressive nazi thugs harrased you even more that this would work in your favor…
I accept that the OP could be construed as having an attitude problem. I accept that the “my uncle’s a lawyer” schtick isn’t very endearing. I also accept that there is probably another side to the story (although in cases like this, we only have the OP to go on and we have to take his word for it). What I can’t accept is that cops in small town America (which is admittedly about as far from my experience as it’s possible to get) are picking up people walking home from bars after three drinks. It baffles me that I would have been committing an offence that is actually enforced most weekends of my adult life had I lived there. .08 an hour afterwards is a pathetically insignificant amount of alcohol in terms of the justification of the arrest of a non-driver.
But I suppose it’s a different culture operating to different standards of behaviour. As an uitlander, it’s probably not up to me to argue the toss. Someday I’ll start a thread about the differences between American and European attitudes to alcohol (and maybe law enforcement).
Sorry about the chip on my shoulder, I don’t always have it. In fact I usually dont get mad about much of anything. I was having a bad day and the cops picked me up. I came in here and vented my anger (which in retrospect was a really bad idea).
I’m done with anything serious for a while.
Back to the “a” thread.
