I won’t try to debate you on abortion (I think you know it’s not as simple as women “letting men use them for sex”) but I agree that a lot of the most vocal activists on any political issue can be shrill and obnoxious. You should expect that Fox News would try to portray this protest in the most negative light posible, though and wouldn’t you agree that it would be pretty easy for a camera crew to find similarly grating and annoying people at an anti-abortion rally or a Bush rally or pretty much any other rally?
The activists who disagree with us always seem much more full of shit and insufferable than the ones we agree with.

While I believe that your stance is indeed well thought out, this particular thread is an emotional reaction. As such, and since it contains witnessing, it will probably turn into a rather viscious flame war.
I suggest to you to leave this thread to run its own course and repost in GD. Take your time to state your belief in a way that can be understood, whether it is accepted or not. Present your case, including reasons why you feel that way, and let others state their position. It might end up being a very good and insightful discussion.

Actually, this is incorrect. There were also knitting needles and crochet hooks, neither of which carry nearly the risk to the woman. My grandmother told me that’s what women used to use when she was young. I think it’d be effectively suicidal to use a coat-hanger when a crochet hook would do the same job at a lesser risk. Or do people just not think about things like that?
But crochet hooks don’t make very good props for waving in front of crowds. Coat hangers, especially rusty ones, do.

That’s why the 500,000 - 800,000 people (women AND men) who marched to DC are justifiably frightened about the future of women’s right to decide what to do when confronted with a bad mistake, a forgotten/unworking method of birth control, a rape, an illness, or any other goddamned reason they may have for not wanting to continue a pregnancy. That’s why the politicians and actors are passionate and determined to make their voices heard despite all the ignorant half-wits who think that they’re being “shrill” just because they’re a) women and b) famous and c) shouting.
