So if a politician is polling well in a particular race, that means they are not old?
Like, Bernie is 77 years old, but he’s polling at 20%… does that make him 57 years old in politics years?

I’ve been pretty clear that I’m no Sanders fan but props where props are due. Muslim leaders: 2020 Democrats ignoring our community - POLITICO
Only he and Castro are showing up at the big Muslim American conference in Houston. Now true that Houston is not in an early state and Muslims are not a huge voting demographic… but they have been so othered in this country that making an appearance there is real moral high ground and important to do, to message that “we” are indeed out of many one.
I still don’t want him as my candidate but shame on those who were too busy to reach out.
Fair.
*Let’s take a close look at Bernie’s record.
Notice the first chart, which ranks both his ideology and his “leadership.” He is the farthest left on the ideology scale of anyone in the senate, but ranks near the bottom in leadership.
Now let’s look at his record in getting legislation through Congress. In all his time in the Senate, he’s sponsored seven bills that passed Congress. Two of them were to rename post offices in his home state of Vermont, one of them was to designate March 4, 1991 as Vermont Bicentennial Day, and one of them was the probably important but not exactly earth-shattering Granting the consent of Congress to the Vermont-New Hampshire Interstate Public Water Supply Compact of March 1996.
What has Bernie Sanders done to deserve your support?
I said this in another thread. Bernie is a prophet, not a Messiah. Let him finish out his career in the Senate, fighting the good fight, and using his seniority to get a few tweaks into legislation that someone else is driving.*
Yup. His record does not hold up. Plus, I’m fed up with old white guys and am 100% backing Warren. Of course, if Sanders is the winning candidate, I will vote for him in Nov 2020. Anyone but Trump.
Agreed, although as much as I loathe Twitler, it would be with considerable reluctance that I voted for Sanders.
Isn’t that position pretty much sexist and racist at the same time? Doesnt seem like you.
If I had said “I’m fed up with old white guys” randomly, then perhaps your accusation of me being both sexist and racist (against my own race) would hold merit. But given the context, it does not. After all, we’ve pretty much had nothing but old white guys as presidents.
I voted for Obama twice and Hillary once. I did not vote for and am disgusted by the corrupt old, white man currently stinking up the White House. And I’d like someone other than an old, white man to run this country once Trump is gone and the Oval Office is fumigated. I’d gladly take an older white woman, a younger white man or woman, a gay man or woman, a Latino man or woman, a black man or woman, an Asian man or woman,…etc. Just not old, white, and male.
Does that clarify it for you?
Ageist too
By the way…going off the top of my head…exactly one “Old white guy” has served as an elected Democrat since Truman.
If I appear ageist, sexist, and racist, so be it. I’ve clarified. Ya’ll can do your Bernie-old-white-guy thing if you want. I stand by Warren or any of the other viable candidates. And I do so proudly.
Cheers
No you don’t appear ageist, sexist or racist. You appear to be basing your vote not on the merit of someones character but rather their appearance. Yes most politicians have been older white men. Does this invalidate the merit of Bernie Sander’s policies and leadership, no.
In a democracy you can vote for whoever you want for whatever reason you want. However this obviously means you can do things such as voting for Trump because you dislike hillary. It’s a vote none the less, it’s just a lesser informed vote. Instead of the vote being cast based on the merit of policy, it’s based on the appeal or more mundane reasons, such as one candidate being a old white male, and most politicians being old white males, and not agreeing with most politicians therefor not agreeing with any old white males.
I’d just like to point out, you have literally just laid out how you’re going to do the same thing all those people who voted Trump out of spite of hillary did. Hopefully you can see the absurdity in this and decide to cast a more merit based vote come 2020.
Who would that be?
Kennedy: age 43 when elected
Johnson: age 56 when elected, 55 when first took office
Carter: age 52 when elected
Clinton: age 46 when elected
Obama: age 47 when elected
Fifty-six is pretty young to be classified as “old white guy.” And Johnson didn’t run for re-election. Carter, the only other fifty-something, ran for re-election but lost. So nobody since Truman has been even 60 years old when elected.
Heh. I just assumed LBJ was older in 1964 cause …well dude looked it in my minds eye and had he been reelected, would have about died right on Nixons Inauguration Day.
??
LBJ first took office after the death of JFK. Then he was reelected the following year.
:smack: Duh.
What policies and leadership? What is Sanders’ record again? Remind me, please.

No, I’m literally not. I’ve even said in this very thread that I’d vote for Sanders if need be in the general election. I doubt you will be, but you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to shame me for something I have not done. Please, do better.
They are all baby boomers yes? Thank you for correcting me. I stand corrected.
Now, no one can call me an ageist.
I just don’t want another white male boomer.
Come at me.
No, they weren’t all baby boomers. JFK and Johnson served in WWII, ffs. Carter was born in 1924.
