Whatever he is, the Rangers sure seem to have a hardon for him. This is, I think, his third stint with the team.
He’s a league average pitcher who can be relied upon to go 190-200 innings every year. Something the Rangers desperately need.
Well, he got roughed up tonight by the crowd and by the National League. Just desserts, I say. With any luck his season will collapse, which I think would be fair punishment considering how MLB won’t give him what he deserves.
Yes, it was enjoyable to hear the “support” he got from fans, and to see that Jones home run ball disappearing far over the left field fence.
To put his record in perspective, he has been an effective regular season pitcher, but truly horrible in the postseason. 0 wins, 3 losses, 8.85 ERA, 20 1/3 innings pitched, 32 hits allowed, 20 earned runs, 16 walks and 15 strikeouts.
48 baserunners allowed in a little over 20 innings. Ecch.
Last night I realized another reason I dislike Kenny Rogers, apart from his infamous final playoff appearance for the Mets against the Braves, and his recent thuggish behavior - he resembles my brother-in-law.
Strike three.
What annoys me more than the fans, i think, is the moronic commentators. Just about every talking head on ESPN, Fox, etc. was saying last week that Rogers should withdraw from the All-Star Game because his behavior was unacceptable.
Then, over the last couple of days, when it became clear that Rogers was going to play, just about every single one of those spineless fuckers started scratching his chin thoughtfully and saying, “Well, you know, the players *did * vote him in, and he does deserve to be there based on his ptiching this season.” Joe Buck and that other moron (McCarver? Is that his name?) were both falling all over themselves last night to praise Rogers for his “genuine” and “honest” apology.
Well, fuck that shit. After being such an asshole, the very least Rogers should have done is offer a contrite and shamefaced apology, yet these assholes are acting like he’s done something special. There’s no way he shold have been in the All-Star Game, and i think that he deserved a longer suspension. And i too was very happy to see Jones’ home run.
I saw him on an infomercial and he appears to have lost 100 pounds and sobered up. Took twenty years off his appearance, but the facelift might have something to do with that.
Kenny Rogers the Major League Choke Pitcher has the same name as Kenny Rogers the Apparently Retired pop singer. Ha ha ha ha.
Ha ha ha ha ha ah.
Ah. Hah bwrrrrp. Hah ah…ah…ahhahahahah
I hate him because he looks like Huey Lewis. I guess I must hate your brother-in-law too, come to think of it.
Just an update, for those who haven’t seen it.
Rogers’s appeal over 20-game ban rejected
I’m heartbroken. :wally
May I be the first to offer a BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA?
Now let’s see Kenny pay the cameraman’s medical bills and do some community service.
You won’t hear this too often, but Bravo! to Bud Selig.
What has happened to the world I knew???
I think baseball needs a new rule: if you appeal your suspension and lose, you get a longer suspension. As it is, everybody who gets suspended for two games lodges an appeal and plays for an extra week. Rogers’ actions were indefensible anyway. The 20 games and the small fine aren’t enough.
Hey, let’s not get crazy here. It should have been 30 games without pay PLUS a fine.
If the World Baseball Classic goes off without a hitch, I’ll consider taking Bud off the “Worst Sports Commissioners Ever” list. Until then, he’s keeping Gary Bettman company.
The National Rugby League competition in Australia has a system something like this.
Different offences draw a different number of points. The length of suspension is based on the number of points a player gets for the offence he has committed. If the player accepts the ruling and takes an “Early Plea,” he gets a 25% reduction on the nominal length of suspension. If the player decides to take his case to a hearing, and loses, he gets the full suspension.
This would make a lot of sense for MLB. Of course, it is probably a suspendable offense to use the words “sense” and “MLB” in the same sentence.
I’ll take my hit now and not attend any games for the next 20 days.
Applause for Ryan Freel of the Reds though. 5 stolen bases in one game, a new Reds record and directly leading to the winning run last night against the Dodgers.
On the other hand, it’s a very lawyerly idea, and it might appeal to litigious ballplayers.
The thing is, with that system, suspensions - which are often too lenient - often become even more lenient. Baseball needs to deal with the appeals faster, and it does need to do something to prevent constant appeals.

Well, apparently 12 games was an excessive punishment for poor Kenny, who insisted all along that he’d accept his punishment like a man, while fighting it tooth and nail every step of the way.
So, Kenny misses a measly 2 starts, and instead of paying a fine, he’ll get to make a tax-deductible contribution to his favorite charity.
Cripes, this is sickening.
Celebrities, pro athletes and (if I could add another to your list) politicians & pundits from this party or that. With notoriety come the apologists.
I dunno. Watching Manny hit it over the green monster was pretty damned satisfying.
You know, there’s an entire hemisphere that doesn’t know what any of you are talking about.
Our loss, no doubt.
