Why hasn't James Berardinelli reviewed Resident Evil?

One of the sites I like to go for movie reviews is James Berardinelli’s Reelviews. Though I disagree with his reviews more often than those of Roger Ebert, he often takes a different enough view that his input helps.

Anyway, I was interested in seeing what he thought of ‘Resident Evil’, which mostly got panned by critics even though I thought it was a decent action/sci-fi/horror flick. I keep checking every day and there is still no review. He has reviewed about every other major release in that time frame, so I don’t understand why.

You know how when the game title screen fires up, a resonant voice proclaims: “Resident…Evillll?” Well, every time that happens, I do the same voice but say: “President…Evillll.” AFAIK it’s the stupidest thing I do.

I jumped when the dog jumped through the window the first time in the first game. That was cool.

Another seizure-inducing spot was the giant spiders dropping from the ceiling. You’re thinking, what the heck is that scuttling noise, and next thing you know a big hairy spider, all legs and shiny black eyes, is sinking its fangs into your scalp.

But the dog through the window definitely took the cake. IIRC you didn’t have a shotgun yet, so brave Jill’s only recourse was to flee.

Alas, it appears there’s no plan for RE on Xbox. If it’s real good I’ll have to buy it for my little brother on Gamecube.

I’m sure I’ll enjoy the movie. Snarling Michelle Rodriguez and raving Milla Jovovich - hell yeah.

A review I read remarked that the film gives has an authentic video game feel, i.e. facing increasingly dangerous foes as the story unfolds. Also with no backstory or memory for the main character, you learn what is going on right along with her, just like in a video game.

See, I thought Tomb Raider accomplished a video game feel rather well also. Lara would battle her way through an elaborate set piece, accomplish a narrow escape, strike a comic book pose, and then on to the next.
