Why/How do you post SO much?

I’ve been crusin these boards for many months now and I can’t for the life of me figure out how many of you find time to post.

I mean, is it less amazing than I think it is? I barely have time to take a crap after work before I “hit the hay”, let alone spend an hour or two writing posts.

What truly amazes me is the posters who have been on for a couple months and have over a 1000 posts! That’s like…takes out calculator…ALOT OF FRIGGIN POSTS!

Is it an addiction?

Is it boredom?

Is it intellectual exercise? <–this one “I” know for sure does not include everyone.

And for the vet Dopers, 2000 to 9999?!?!? What possesses you to write about every single thing that comes to mind? Not to mention the time it take to do it!

As you can see by by 40+ posts I don’t contribute as much as I’d like, but I am here in spirit and that counts for something dammit!

Who knows, maybe I just have post-count envy, but even if I did, I couldn’t do anything about it. Or better yet, maybe your post counts are so high from answering stupid questions like mine!

So…?

By my math, you’re doing a little better than a post a week.

You must be exhausted! :stuck_out_tongue:
Seriously, though…I guess I have averaged about 3 posts a day since I joined. Not all that much, I don’t think. But I do agree in that I don’t see how some people keep up the rate that they do. Some people are on a pace 4x or 5x what I have averaged, and it seems like I spend way too much time here as it is.

Oh well, it beats crack.

Most of the time, anyway.

I’m not sure what my rate of posting is. I guess around 6 or 7 posts per day on average. My secret? Boredom. Sheer, unadulterated boredom. I have a very slow-paced job with internet access. This helps the day go by faster.

I generally post in only two situations: (a) If I have a fairly straight-forward but eminently answerable question that I happen not to know the answer to but which I am extremely confident I will get one or more quick and accurate responses to, and (2) If someone has posed a question or otherwise raised an issue with respect to which I consider myself exceedingly well-informed. The latter category does not arise often.

Well. I’m a college student who gets insomnia.

If that isn’t a good definition of “A lot of free time and Internet access” I don’t know what is.

Of course, then I got addicted and now I hang around to keep up the doseage so I don’t die. Withdrawl symptoms are hell.

What posesses me to write about everything that comes to mind. Well, when I was four I used crayons to scribble my name on the wall. When I was in seventh grade I got a journal. Now I play here and in my online journal. (Its just a high tech crayon.)

Brilliant!

No no no! There’s the beauty of it. I don’t write everything that comes to mind. If it did, I’d have a lot LESS posts than I do now. See, I’ve decided the best way to participate on this board is to just stop using my mind all together. I just swing a dead cat around, have it hit the keyboard a few times, and press “submit reply.” No muss, no fuss, bing! Another brilliant post. And the best part is doing that after you’ve quoted someone because then they read your reply and, even if they don’t understand it, they’ll reply back to you. Then you get to find another dead cat and reply back to them. Ding! Yet another brilliant post.

As far as time factor, it’s fairly easy if your house is situated on the event horizon of a black hole. And the loading time? Whew, it’s faster than DSL! It does get a bit chilly though, so I wouldn’t recommend visiting without a windbreaker or something.

I think my post count is so high for a couple of reasons. First is that I read and type fairly fast, and the second is that I have a lot of spare time. I work overnights so I am online for about 9 hours with practically nothing to do, and I spend a good deal of my time here. I read a lot, and so I read most of the posts on things I am interested in, and I usually know or have heard something related to the topic.

Generally, I post in the summer. I’m off all summer, you see. I love my job. I have the BEST career counselor!!! I miss my li’l second grade devils, but I can’t wait to meet the new ones!!!

And in this case, you’re post count beats Linear Crack.

Man, I’m almost ashamed to hit submit on this one…

Man, I don’t see how all you people post so much. I feel like I’m on the board all the time at work, 12 hours at a pop. Then I just got online at home, so there go my nights there. And still I don’t have 500 posts. Its not like I’m adding important information to GQ or GD that often. Its all fluff in MPSIMS and IMHO and I still can’t keep up with most of you.

What do you do with 1705 smelly dead cats?

I just quote other people.

More than once.

Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?

Some boards are worse than others. For example on a certain Unreal Tournament forum I saw a person with 6000 posts who simply posted anime drawings of fairy bondage. That doesen’t happen here because images are disallowed:)

I only post when I have something interesting to say.

assuming I remember to include it*

*and there goes an extra post for glee!

Boredom or a really good flirt thread.

When I get home from work is when most of my friends are online. Between emailing them I come here or to the wrestling sites.
