"SuperDopers"; How do you do it?

I just posted over in GD, and noticed that my post count had finally reached triple figures, after just over 10 months of semi-active posting. Now I’m sure there are people on these boards who have a lot more time to post than me; I have a wife and a son, a full-time job, two dogs, a cat, and a horse. But the main reason I don’t post more often is that I just don’t feel likeI have *that * much to contribute.

I think some of it is just me feeling slightly inadequate here. Growing up, I was always the smartest kid in my class. Even in college, although I knew there were people in my classes who were smarter than me, I always felt I could hold my own against anyone. But when read the posts by some of the Dopers here, I wonder “where did these people learn all this stuff, and what have I been doing all this time?” I mean, there are people here with five thousand, ten thousand, even fifteen thousand posts! I don’t think I could match that pace if I spent 8 solid hours a day on the SDMB; I just plain don’t have that much to say! And if I did, I not sure a lot of it would really be worth saying.

So, “SuperDopers” (and you know who you are), how do you manage to have so much to say, and have it actually be worth our time to read it?

Well, I’m a relative newbie - 7 months at 7 posts per day, according to my profile. So I should reach 15,000 by August 2011.
And I do have too much time on my hands…

It’s hard to believe such a calamity.

It’s an addiction, plain and simple.

As far as the post counts go? I go in waves. Once I posted 3000 times in 6 months or so. I post at work a lot. I run my own department so there’s not people going to check up on me…I’m the checker.

Qui custodiet ipsos custodes, I suppose.

Like you I was always the smartest guy in the room. And here I don’t have that. And I really like it.

Are you chubby?

Easy. I type a lot. Participating in MPSIMS talky-type threads helps, as does the fact that I needed an excuse to skip class the last two semesters.

3,171 posts (plus this one) in exactly one year. Yep, my one-year Dopiversary was the day before yesterday.

8.61 posts per day.

I would guess I’ve been averaging around 25-30 posts per day the last week and a half or so since I quit my job but my lifetime average is still only around 2.17 posts per day.

As far as the correlation between the super high post-counts and the deep well of knowledge, well, there isn’t one. I’ve always felt that I could hold my own with anyone too, which makes guys like tomndebb blow my mind, but there are people that stop by just to make 2 or 3 posts that have the same effect.

Maybe there is a slightly higher percentage of people with those super quality posts having high post-counts because they are so well received, but the two facts are definitely independent of each other.

Well, the first thing is to get over the need to have something edifying to contribute to a thread…

Damn – that makes more sense if you check out my signature.

Actually, unless I’m making some kind of mistake or misremembering something here, I had around 2,800 posts when I quit my job 9 days ago. Now I have 3,310, which makes 510 posts in 10 days. That’s 56.6 posts per day

It seems like that has to be a mistake. Has anyone noticed me posting a lot lately?

Now I don’t remember that in the registration agreement…

It is a mistake … sort of a bank error in your favor. That’s 51 ppd.

Like JC says, I’m the boss at work. Who’s gonna argue. Course if any of my employees were Dopers, I wouldn’t complain either. Heck, most of the time, if they’ll just do what they’re supposed to do, I don’t care what they do on the 'net long as it’s legal sites for work, i.e. no porn etc.

Plus, I spend waaaaaaaaaay to much time in MPSIMS especially in Rue DeDay’s MMPs (Monday Morning Post). Learn the MMP. Love the MMP. Live the MMP. Soon you’ll be a prolific poster.

That was actually just a typo. It was supposed to say 9 days. 510/9 = 56.6

I once spilled heroin on my keyboard, and now I’m addicted to typing.

We call him ‘cuddly’.

By flailing at the keyboard and hoping for the best?

I’m averaging 14.59 per day, which sounds like a lot, until you consider…

I read 5 areas (GQ, CS, IMHO, MPSIMS, The Pit) each time (so it comes to 3 per forum per day) and in some I post a lot, like our City of Heroes thread in CS. When I start threads, I tend to post a lot in them, as I feel kinda…responsible…for em and want to keep them moving.

Free time and beer, I guess.

Got that right. I suspect that a LOT of Dopers were the Class Whiz Kid; I certainly was, but I usually feel like a slack-jawed jackanapes around here.

Hasn’t stopped me from posting almost 3,000 times, though.

Hand around for 4 years (Holy Hagrid has it been four years!!!) and the posts start to add up. A little less than 4 posts a day of pure pulledoutmynetherness.

You can get that up nicely with a clean toothbrush, if you had any.

It also seems to help to run throught the occassional thread naked…
Not to name names, or anything…iampunha :dubious:

:stuck_out_tongue:

short posts help.
