Oh, he’s got plenty of those.
It’s the toothpaste he keeps running out of prematurely.

they would
Which is better? The guy that said a really profound thing once, or the guy that said a whole lot of sh*t, and there was a good one in there once?
If post count equaled righteousness, Liberal would be the OED of the internet, that seems to put things into perspective.
In a year, I’ve managed to accumulate ~3,800 posts at approximately seven posts a day. That may seem like a lot to some people but it doesn’t to me, really. Considering I read all the fora here sans ATMB and CCC/CSR, it breaks down to about 1.5 posts per forum per day in theory.
In practice, it’s a lot of posting in spurts followed by long periods of relative inactivity. Then there are the Enterprise threads that usually go four or so pages that I’m a regular in.
It also helps that when I joined, I had a twenty hour a week job, got fired from it eight months later, was unemployed for eight months after that, and now have a job where I am allowed to post as much online as I want to so long as my boss isn’t online herself.
…actually, I’ve wondered the same sort of thing myself.
Not so much the highpost counts, but having the time to read and review all those threads in so many places each and every day. I spend WAAAAY to much time on the SDMB and usually in Cafe Soc. but as the OP said, I don’t feel that much need to contribute (actually, I feel guilty about the short pointless posts, after complaining about other boards where someone will post, ‘yeah, me too’. I find that infuriating, but somehow the short posts here are never so insipid, they’re always amusing, reassuring, comforting or just plain silly. Which is why I love the SDMB! Don’t we all?). I also need to do some work sometimes. I get very odd stares from the programmer who sits away behind me (hi brother Lim!)
And I’ve only recently discovered Rue’s MMP (which is actually a TMP here in the eastern hemisphere). Much fun abounds!
And yeah, I was one of the smarties in school, and in Uni (so much so that the Surfer Dude in our design class threatened to smack me in the head once, cos he was sick of me answering each and every question posed by someone in the class (those that I didn’t answer seemed to never get answered and just hung…).
But here on the boards, I feel like such a dope (pun intended).
Youse guys is so smart!
-gene-o.
Yes.
So, that explains it, out of a job uh? I was like that months ago. Now, I got a Job and go to college full time, it is the reason why I don’t post as often as I used to.
Which you didn’t show. Twice. Heh.
DAMN!!! In more than a year i have compiled a little more than a hundred posts…am i lazy? do people recognize me here? ( i know Tentacle Monster does) ahhhhh!!! i guess i am no Roland Duchien.
And yet despite that, you’ve been here a month less than me and have almost ten times the number of posts I do (give or take about three hundred).
methinks I’m not pulling my weight around here! grin.
Sandlegs don’t feel bad, I know Askia and purplycow recognise me, but then they’re kind’ve next door! Well… maybe one or two others do too.
But then I seem to have this uncanny knack for thread killing, so maybe it’s more than I’m more known rather than appreciated
(hey! I used a smiley!).
Dangeregene, you are positively gushing compared to me.
I went through a phase where I was pposting a huge amount; I’ve slowed down a little now.
I tried to – twice. It showed on preview, both times, but apparently because I’ve got signatures blocked (for reading), it won’t show it, even if you check “show signature,” which I did.
If you check my profile, you can see it there.
Must have been a very small room.
*People ask me how I do it,
And I say, “There’s nothin’ to it,
You just sit here looking busy,
Then you post until your dizzy!”
And there’s sixty-five hundred posts beside my name right now…
Some in GQ, some in MPSIMS, and there’s some about a cow
*
I dunno. It just sort of happened.
I’ve often found it amazing myself, since I was pretty actively posting from work all the time. However, I usually go through lulls where nothing on the boards at the time seems very interesting and I only bother checking once in a while.
Like now. In fact, I’ve only come off a several week lull and noticed I was finally nearing the 3,000 mark so decided to start sticking around again.
Yep.
Speed-reading.
Very high typing speed.
High-speed internet connection.
Boss who doesn’t care if I surf the web, so long as my job gets done.
Oh… bein’ a bit of a yammerer never hurt, either…
Dangeregene, you are positively gushing compared to me.
is that what the puddle is?
I was wondering…
For many of the people, it helps if you’d been around since the early days, 1999 or so. Many of them are in the 3-5,000 range. If you joined up later, like 2003, it only works if you’re the world’s second smartest human being, Q.E.D.
Personally, I’d rather be the guy who posts when he has something to say, rather than the one who posts when he has to say something.
