I’d also reinstall Counter-Strike and play. I got so fed up with cheaters that I stopped playing. I stink as it is, I don’t need someone who can see through walls and head shot me every time.
Are you sure about that? From what I remember, my fire elementals got seriously worked by the more powerful vampires. My kensai/mage with the level drain immunity thing, OTOH, turned 'em into giblets.
TRIBES or TRIBES 2
hard to learn how to manuver in a fully 3d environment but oh so worth it when you can get around.
its a team based fps and you can play defense for starters. its a bit easier to learn the game when you have a job and you arent just another hotdog on the buffet line.
hands down the best fps I have ever played.
KKBattousai, it’s been a while, but here’s how I usually worked it – I’d go room by room. First in would be the summoned creatures. I usually maxed out the numbers (usually 2 fire elementals, one spirit animal, and two others – whatever lasted longest or was cheap to summon by items). They’d be taking the hard-core energy drains, but my other characters would usually come in with ranged weapons, with usually my paladin/undead hunter in front with Carsomyr. A lot of times I’d never need the party members, only for the bigger groups of undead.
Example: that quest in Carsomyr’s area with the pieces of a mask. All of the guardians’ attacks were fire-based, and didn’t work on the fire elementals. Hence, one fire elemental finished all without a scratch.
I usually used this because I really don’t like clericy-types, so my parties are usually light on the healers. Summoned creatures taking damage decreases the amount of healing required.
This was essentially for early in the game – the hardcore vampires usually took my fire elementals down a bit faster. I’m simply adhering to the “multiple target” rule – I hate energy drain. Hate, hate, hate, hate it. Still, I usually had an undead hunter along – so the upper level vampires weren’t a problem after picking up that Holy Avenger. It was just getting to that point as early as possible that was easier with the fire elementals.
Still, summoned creatures were my favorite thing. I loved all the summoning items – like the spider, the djinni, and so on.
I’m up for BG2, but it seems you have the expansion, D_Odds. How should we work that out?
(P.S. I love swashbucklers, too! My favorite party ever for smack-down was undead hunter, ranger/archer, totemic druid, swashbuckler, cleric, and mage. Part of this is because I never could understand how to get backstab to work – though granted I didn’t try that hard. It just didn’t work the way that I expected. I asked some other folks, they didn’t know either. Do you know?)
I’ll play anything except BG2, because I don’t have it.
email is sterra13@yahoo.com.
Does anyone have alpha centauri? That has a good play by email feature, and its not one of those games where you have too many skilled people at it.
- Hide in Shadows with your thief.
- The next melee attack that character makes (assuming s/he is still in Shadows at the time) will be a “backstab”.
It’s worked quite well when I’ve tried it.
I’ve played quite a bit of Half-Life and its mods, mostly TFC of S&I (team based games, where working with others really pays off)- but not CounterStrike, because I’m just damned sick of it and the idiots who seem to populate the servers. Right now I’m addicted to Renegade, because it’s like TFC with tanks. One tip to those inexperienced to games: say “hello” when entering a server! If a couple of people say “hi” back, then figure that this server might be nicer than average, and might answer some questions or help you out if you ask.
I figure I might as well list the games I’d be willing to play, if anyone’s interested:
HalfLife (mods, etc)
Renegade
Tribes2
Aliens vs Predator 2
Also some that I’ve never played multiplayer with, but would be willing to give a shot:
Arcanum
BG2 (never got very far into the SP game - I suppose I shouldn’t have made my first character a Bard)
Fallout Tactics
Worms World Party
Black & White
Sacrifice
System Shock 2
StarCraft (I suck at it, but I’d be willing to be a good-natured tackling dummy for a game or two)
You can also, IIRC, backstab coming out of “regular” invisibility.
Hmmm. I never got it to work when I tried it in BG, so I probably never even tried it in BG2. That’s probably how I would have used it. Maybe I was using a bad weapon or armor that disallowed it? I usually multiclass thieves.
On any given day, there is usually a game going on, Battlenet East , under the name SDMB or some variation (SDMB_Baal, SDMB_Cows, etc.)
If there isn’t, start one and odds are, someone will be along. If you want, password it with the name of the Worlds Smartest Man to keep non-dopers out.
Wow, do people still play that game? I made lieutenant in the Core before Boneyards got shut down.
First, last, or both names? and if both, is there a space?
Other than that, uhh, anyone want to play a game of TFC some time? Only problem is, I really havn’t played many maps besides 2Fort. (why is that so popular, anyways?)
Hey, sign me up for some System Shock 2. I’ve never played it multiplayer, but I’ve heard that the whole specialization thing works quite well.
Although I have the games, I’m not particularly interested in multiplayer BG1 and BG2, though I’d be willing to give it a shot.
Deathmatch FPS is more to my liking. Looks like Half-Life is the game of choice for this. I’ll have to grab myself a copy. Is there a particular mod I really need to have?
I hadn’t realized System Shock 2 could be played multiplayer until I read it here, though it’s been a while. I just listed it as my number two choice for best roleplaying game over in that thread.
Thanks for all of the responses. I didn’t mean to imply that all hardcore gamers are jerks (I consider myself a turn-based strategy hard-core gamer), but it does seem that all of the jerks that I’ve run into are hardcore gamers.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I do admit that I’ve had fun playing one on-line game. The casual rooms at the Excite card games have been a nice way to relax on occasion. However, I think I’ll stick with real life activities for social gaming (Risk, Axis and Allies) and single player games for computers.
Usually just the first name.
