Why I'm Leaving This Board

How would we even know if they had?

Touché!

Has this run it’s course now? Nobody made gdave leave and he’s free to return. No rules were broken either. And as far as I can tell no new rules were created. Isn’t time to put this to bed?

“Why I’m Leaving This Thread”

This statement of honest self-awareness has been roundly ignored in the prolific discussion that has followed.

None of our business why it was so triggering, such a “personal and sensitive issue” but it was. The rest of us apparently do not share that trigger, the mod loop had no way to know about it, and avoiding every member’s triggers is not possible or even desirable, even if all are known.

It seems pretty clear that @gdave brought a steamer trunk of baggage to this interaction, that no one else could be aware of. As a result they still see asking questions as “just asking questions” and as“sealioning” and experienced intent that others who were part of the interactions did not in anyway see. And is insulted that those others do not see the reality as they, based on their unshared personal history, know is truth.

I am sorry for whatever hard personal history @gdave has. And I hope that at some point this place returns to their play activity list. But reading the post that set off this most recent flurry of activity in this thread a good long break from here seems wise.

No, it hasn’t been ignored at all. This is precisely why many of us have expressed skepticism that @gdave’s account of his interaction with @Chronos is objective and fair. And why many of us have also emphasized our respect for @gdave as a poster and our hope that he returns. He was wrong here, but in a manner that is completely human and understandable when you are strongly emotionally invested in an issue.

I concur.

But too many have picked this thread as an excuse to stir the midden and attack the mods.

I agree that if @gdave takes on board the facts elucidated in this thread and wants to reevaluate whether he overreacted, reviewing the text of the conversation might help him. However, when someone is energized in this manner about a legal issue, real or imagined, I could well understand a reluctance to disinter what is (from the Board’s perspective) a dead issue.
