Why is Epstein the scandal that has stuck, and why now?

And this is what matters. MAGA is not 50% of the US voting population. Trump needed a few million non-MAGA votes (a few hundred thousand in the right states) to win the Presidency. Those non-MAGA independents are today a lot more likely to turn away from whoever picks up the Trumpist mantle in 2028 than they were a few months ago. Epstein isn’t the entire reason for that, but it’s another weight on the scale.

This is a good primer. Reminds me of living on a small, condensed college campus except that you’re not allowed to go anywhere off-campus.

You can look for yourself on Google Street View. The Google car has been all around the whole thing and you can see it from all sides. The facility is in a residential neighborhood and has a high chain link fence around it. The chain link is topped with razor wire but it looks like there is a common area in front of the prison (where the picnic tables are) where a motivated individual could simply walk out.

Minimum security also most likely means that other inmates will have access to sharp objects so there is a certain danger to Maxwell here. That might be part of the deal though. Behave or get shanked by Elizabeth Holmes.

Holmes : We only needed one drop of blood at Theranos but I’m going get way more out of you than that!

I’m not even sure it’s that complicated; that guy probably thought it was funny to yell that at the rally, because when you’re an asshole, getting a rise out of people/yanking their chains is something that amuses you, even if the way you go about it is deeply inappropriate.

Now there’s a Reality show I did not know I wanted to watch…

Thank you very much for your link, very illustrating.
Now there is something I don’t understand:

Federal Prison Camps house the lowest security federal inmates. For inmates in a minimum-security prison, their crimes tend to be less serious. They are nonviolent offenders who do not have a significant history of institutional disciplinary violations or escape. Additionally, inmates must have less than ten years remaining on their sentence.

Minimum-security prisons house inmates with a minimal criminal history, those serving shorter sentences, and inmates with no history of violence. As such, these prisons are known as white-collar prisons and Club Fed.

Only prisoners with the lowest security point totals and OUT custody status can be housed in minimum-security federal prisons. Sex offenders and others the Bureau considers high-risk are prohibited from placement in prison camps.

But I understand that now:

Re last post, incarceration in any prison is terrible, and Club Fed is a myth:

The days of “country club’’ prisons are long gone, and people should know better by now.

If Trump ordered them to put Maxwell in minimum security, that’s a scandal. But if corrections staff deems her at low risk of attempting escape or assaulting another prisoner, this 63 year old is in the right place.

I agree there’s no such thing as a nice jail (although the one Pablo Escobar built for himself was decent because he could leave anytime he pleased). However, this particular jail is not open to sexual offenders. So an exception had to be made to send her there and it’s an exception that she has no way of earning unless it comes from way up high. So the questions have to be asked. Why her? Why now? Why this facility? If Pam Bondi refuses to answer, that will be an answer in itself: we gave her this gift in exchange for a gift she is going to give us.

I suppose Trump might even start to feel like he’s on top of this situation. But there’s still a thousand victims out there and any or all of them could come forward. Trump can pardon Maxwell and have her do a tour of all the Sunday shows singing his praises as the most innocent man to ever look super guilty of everything he’s ever been accused of and he still might end up getting a nasty surprise from the right person speaking out at the right moment. He can’t bury this. He can only bury himself and from what we have seen so far, he’s never heard of the first rule of holes.

My thought when I read this was that maybe the definition of a sexual offender, used in saying whether you can be in federal minimum security, is not exactly what we think, or the rule is inconsistently enforced.

But then I looked some more and found a rule that you have to have no more than ten years left on your sentence to go minimum security. And Maxwell has almost fifteen years remaining. So, by the preponderance of the evidence, she is getting somewhat less harsh treatment in prison than most in her situation. Not that this outrages me. Most American prisoners should be treated better than they are.

What will outrage me far more than Maxwell getting out after more than five years in prison will be if Trump follows through with his threat to lock up Barack Obama (or anyone else so obviously innocent). And a hat tip to President Obama for not having fled the country. It would hurt the Democrats for him to flee, even though it is in his self-interest.

He could go to Hawaii. They’d probably have difficulty extraditing him from there.

Trump isn’t trying to say that he thought being outmaneuvered in a real estate deal is more of an incentive to cut ties with Epstein than sex trafficking; he’s trying to claim that he didn’t really know Epstein, didn’t have a social relationship with him, and thus didn’t know anything about ‘sex stuff’ despite not only the copious photographic and video evidence but his own prior statements such as "It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” Donald Trump is just a terrible liar, one who talks out of both sides of his mouth except that he can’t keep track of which lie belongs to which side.

And it’s kind of dumb that he even bothers to try to make complicated lies because he could just claim it never happened, there are no Epstein files, and either pay off Maxwell with a pardon or have her disappear into a black hole in the prison system, and the MAGAts would defend it all to the death. It is becoming increasingly clear that Trump intends to stay in power indefinitely (or at least as long as his clogged arteries and failing cognition hold out) so despite the obsession with polling numbers and popularity he gives fuck all about anything besides keeping the Congress toeing the line and the corporate media cowed by SLAPP suing and threatening broadcast licenses.

The Epstein scandal is a distraction which has virtually no chance of actually sticking to Trump or somehow bringing him down as if Mike Johnson would ever allow an impeachment vote to hit the floor of the House.

It’s sticking better than other things because it’s an audience that likes conspiracy theories* and you don’t kill conspiracies by just saying “nothing to see here folks”. This could have been, and still could be, damaging to Trump. But, in my opinion, Democratic leadership have let him get away with it and I would agree with you that he’ll likely teflon this one out.
I’m on a few MAGA forums, and they’ve already moving towards depicting Ghislaine as a victim that we must hear out.

\* And this one happens to be true IMO. Epstein’s incredibly lenient first sentence, prosecutors being told to back off, and no convictions of any other men despite secret videos of parties being stored for blackmail purposes being part of the official evidence. It stinks to high heaven.

He pulled at their heartstrings and kept tugging if he would’ve let it simmer down I believe that it wouldn’t even be an issue now but Bannon is the creator of flood the market with a bunch of storylines which is what the administration is doing a great job at except THE ORANGE SOURPATCH KID can’t let it go

Time to upgrade your LLM.

Moderating:

@Stranger_On_A_Train, while indirect, the above is attacking the poster, albeit while also attacking the post. I’m giving the benefit of the doubt that your intent was more the latter than the former, so no Warning issued, but let’s keep our snark clearly on the not-insulting side, or take it to the Pit.

Is there any solid evidence of such vids? Are they on any official list, submitted for evidence etc?

Ah on re-checking, I had let one of my inferences become a “fact”.

Basically police have found hidden cameras at his properties. And some of Trump’s accusers have reported seeing a surveilance room where monitors showed images of bedrooms and bathrooms. But I don’t see a cite specifically that any tapes have been recovered. Sorry.

A reasonable inference. I think that when Epstein saw the writing on the wall he cleaned things up, deleted incriminating stuff or had it done. This is why I dont think the “Files’ have anything that could be used as evidence to convict anyone of molestation or rape, etc. No smoking guns,m but maybe some inferences could be drawn.

I wonder what those files could be, if they existed.
Assume for starters that Epstein, who had the equipment to do so, recorded something. This he could have done digitally or analogically. If

how did he do it? Did he have backups? If the backups were digital and he could access them remotely, could somebody have made a copy? Could the copy still exist? And this is the point, I think, where the MAGA think “but nothing digital is ever truly erased, there is always a copy in the internet. So the data must have been digital, otherwise the copy would not exist!” Don’t nitpick the non sequitur or the circular logic, please: we know who we are talking about. MAGA, right?
I believe this is the thinking that gives this affair the stickiness the OP asks about, that and the fact that pedophilia is such an obsession for the MAGA and the media that feed them.
That anybody that had those mythical files would live in grave danger feeds in turn into a childish hero cult that also has a long tradition in MAGA circles. Someone misterious who knows will write someting deep and very relevant about it, just you wait. And it will be weird beyong what I can imagine, but I know that it will be stupid and false, probably intellectually obscene, and petty. Strange, come to think of it, that Q or some variant of Q have not yet stepped into the ring.
