Hugh Downs was never a newsman like Walter Cronkite. He was a TV host who did whatever shows came his way. He was never a deep thinker either. He wrote a bunch of books, but none of them are particularly interesting or important. He’s 88 years old and presumably doesn’t care what anyone thinks of his choices in he appears in. He seems to be doing anything that pays him and vaguely interests him.
Incidentally, I must have known this at some point, but I’ve just discovered that he went to high school in Lima, Ohio, only about twenty-five miles from where I grew up. He also went to college in Bluffton, Ohio, about six miles from where I grew up. In fact, I was born in Bluffton in the sense that that’s where the hospital is that I was born in.
I’m not catching on… is this about him selling this “symptoms of a heart attack” thing on the internet???
Yeah… pretty much, UBW, I just always thought he had more “integrity” ya know?
But as Wendell wrote, I guess I missed some stuff.

And please! I am NOT upset at what was written - not at all. Just upset at my gullability, that’s all: Just always willing to go with the first impression, I guess!

I saw what you did with that Steve Earle thing.
I don’t see any reason to call Hugh Downs a whore. He’s just a TV personallity who took whatever jobs he could get. He probably believes everything he says on those TV infomercials. I think you’re taking TV personalities too seriously if you expect them to be experts on the stuff they talk about.
